New FC Shakhtar Donetsk home shirt 08/09 by adidas

This is the new FC Shakhtar Donetsk home shirt for the 08/09 season made by adidas. On 5 December 2007 FC Shakhtar presented its new crest that had been designed by the Italian company Interbrand.

FC Shakhtar received their first crest in 1936. It was a blue hexagon with a red skirt, whose C letter was crossed with a coal hammer. In 1946, when the sports society and the team were renamed from Stakhanovets into Shakhtar, the club crest acquired the signature ДСО «Шахтер» and a picture of a gob pile and a pile-driver.

Shakhtar crest history

In the sixties two crossed hammers appeared in the center and a signature «Шахтер» Донецк around the logo. Approximately since that time (except for several seasons at the beginning of 90-s) the logo has been on the players' T-shirts.

In 1989 artist Viktor Savilov on the event of the club restructuring offered a draft variant of a logo with elements of the ball and pith.

In 1997 the crest design was slightly altered. It remained the club’s official symbol till 2007.

On 5 December, a new symbol of the Donetsk team has been presented to the public. The ceremony took place at the Donetsk Drama Theatre.This ceremony has become FC Shakhtar crest's swansong. The crest that they had known for almost 20 years has found its place in the Club museum.



Long before the beginning of the ceremony, Shakhtar veterans were the first to turn out in the lobby. Definitely, this event stole the show for those who spent years at our club. It was a meeting of old friends too. Real legends of past years could be seen there: Sokolovskyy, Parkhomenko, Zubov, Starostyak...

Little by little the lobby was filled with guests and journalists. A well-known sports commentator Viktor Gusev was among those who had come to highlight the event.

Before the third bell rang, first team players as well as Shakhtar CEO Sergiy Palkin and the president of the Donetsk football club Rinat Akhmetov arrived.

The presentation was a real spectacle. The guests were entertained by the stars of Ukraine showbiz: Svetlana Loboda, Andriy Kravchuk, Viktor Pavlyk, the Barcelona Duet, and Taisiya Povaliy.

Viktor Savilov, an artist who created our provisos crest in 1989, delivered a short speech:

"How the idea was born? I just wanted use the peculiarities of our region -- the coal mines -- as a basis for the crest. And then I had this idea to perform a football split into two halves by a football field surface. The lower part symbolised coal mines. That was the main idea."



Then spoke the head of the Donetsk Region Administration Volodymyr Logvynenko:

"It is a great pleasure to announce that the President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko presented the head coach of FC Shakhtar Mircea Lucescu with the order "For Merit". And I am here to hand it over to you, Mr Lucescu."

Once on the stage Mircea Lucescu had to wait a little till the audience stopped applauding:

"Thanks a lot! I beg your pardon for not winning the yesterday's match. "

Soon the main event of the evening took place: a new crest of FC Shakhtar was unveiled with the club's anthem sounding at the back ground. This event marked the beginning of a new era of Shakhtar.
