Birmingham City have unveiled their new away kit for the 2008/09 season made by Umbro. The new 2008-2009 away kit will be on sale from Sunday 11 May - the day of the final game of the season vs. Blackburn Rovers.
In 1971 Birmingham City adopted the "penguin" strip – royal blue with a broad white central front panel – which lasted five years. Since then they have generally worn plain, nominally royal blue shirts, though the actual shade used got gradually lighter over the years. Shorts have been either blue or white, and socks either blue, white or a combination. The colours of Birmingham's change strip have varied greatly over the years; white or yellow (on their own or with blue or black) and red with white or black have been the most frequently used combinations.
For the current 2007–08 season Birmingham have revived the "penguin" shirt in a more traditional, darker shade of royal blue, with white shorts and blue socks. The away kit consists of a white shirt with blue trim, blue shorts and white socks. This 07/08 season they also have a third kit which is all red with blue and white trim. Next season's strip is again manufactured by Umbro and carries the name of the same sponsors, F&C Investments.
When the Brummies originally wore the "Penguin" strip in the 70's (Latchford, Francis, et al), they wore a red version of the blue-with-white-panel shirt.
This is an homage to that change strip, only reverse colors - white-with-red-panel.
Yes, it looks like Ajax, but it is not based on their strip. This is founded in Birmingham's own history.
Blues had a three panel german flag coloured strip in the 70s. Now that is a classic.
West Brom's new away strip will be Yellow top with blue trim, navy blue shorts and yellow socks
The new home strip will be Blue and White stripes as usual, though the stripes will be wider than this seasons, there is also more white on the sleeves than blue. There is a very small collar, similar to the one that appears on the England away shirt.
Away strip official images likely to appear towards end of the month, though samples are in club shop. The reason is that negotiations on a new sponsor for next season have not been finalised. Two betting/gambling firms in the running along with two other multinational firms.
really nice kit. i like the really light gray lines coming from the houlders to the spine. I'll probably buy that than the home kit. But we dont know what the home kit is yet do we. :grin
Pish, come up with something original Umbro why don't you, maybe if Birmingham had an awesome Youth football system and a legacy of great players, but all I can think of is Trevor Francis (Go on the Forest 1979 Euro Cup). Mehhhhh. And James McFadden could do so much better, should have stuck with Everton big lad, see you in the Championship. Come on You Reds!!!!
I'm glad to see that on this site there aren't as many childish postings as on pitchslap...
Most true Ajax fans (seasonticketholders) see this design as a compliment.
Lots of thinking have been put in this design. Its pretty sad to see that they had to copy the whole ajax shirt. Even though this design is simply cheap. I mean like come ooooonn. This is Ajax' trademark. Don't try to get famous by using OUR collers.
And everybody who thinks this is a better design then Ajax'. You should let the doctor check you for any major error your system contains.
Dijkman, an obvious Ajax fan from Amsterdam.
You how me call such poeple here in Amsterdam? They're called FAKERS!!!
