Charlton Athletic 2008-09 Joma football kits E-mail

charlton_athletic_08_09_joma_kits.jpg

Charlton Athletic have signed an shirt sponsorship deal with the UK's leading sports fashion retailer, JD Sports.

Charlton unveiled the two new Joma kits that the Addicks will wear during the 08/09 Championship campaign. One of JD Sports' youth fashion brands, Carbrini Sportswear, is emblazoned on the front of the jerseys under the agreement, and will become the predominant brand at The Valley.

And new Charlton signing Mark Hudson and promising winger Scott Wagstaff were selected to model the new strips for the first time.

Charlton chairman Derek Chappell said: "We are absolutely delighted to be associated with JD Sports, and delighted that they have shown such confidence in the club ahead of next season. I believe it's going to be a fruitful partnership for both parties."

He added: "These are difficult times for clubs seeking sponsorship deals, given the current financial climate, but we are thrilled that JD Sports see the value of being associated with Charlton and all that the club represents."

Unveiling their two strips for the coming 2008/09 campaign, which have again been manufactured by Spanish firm Joma, Charlton revealed a new red design featuring white side panels and a further white horizontal panel across the chest.

The away kit is white with black side panels and a red and black stripe across the chest.

JD Sports will stock replica Addicks shirts in stores close to The Valley and in key Charlton-supporting areas, and the deal includes a series of bonuses based on the club's success in the league and cup competitions.

JD Sports chief executive Barry Bown said: "We are very pleased to be sponsoring Charlton for the forthcoming season. It is an initial one-year deal and we feel it will give us great brand visibility at a key Championship club.

"This is our first serious investment in football shirt sponsorship in England and will enable our Carbrini Sportswear brand to gain much greater awareness."

He added: "Charlton have a fantastic heritage and a thriving community programme, and we look forward to a very beneficial relationship."

Founded in 1981 with one shop in Bury, Lancashire, the John David Group plc is the UK's leading specialised multiple retailer of fashionable branded and own-brand sports and casual wear with more than 340 stores.

The closest JD Sports stores to The Valley are located in Bexleyheath and Woolwich. Further branches in key Charlton-supporting heartlands can be found in Greenwich, Dartford, Bluewater shopping centre, Maidstone and Chatham.

Charlton chief executive Steve Waggott said: "I am delighted to form an exciting partnership with such a reputable and renowned brand through an innovative agreement that will develop many different benefits to both organisations.

"It is the culmination of a long journey by our commercial team to find the right sponsor for the club, and I am looking forward to working with the JD Group."

Fans will be able to pre-order the kits online shortly, and the club will announce in the near future when the strips will go on sale in the Superstore and Bexleyheath retail outlet.

che schifo!
Absolutely bad
0/5 as usual for a joma kit
mattcafc   |2008-06-06
On first viewing I thought were both terrible, but the white kit is starting to grow on me. Red one is still awful though. And why is the Joma black on a kit with so much white?

And Carbrini? Not all Charlton fans are pikies and want to wear hoodies!

Overall though you know it's a bad kit when the bit you like most is the away kits' shorts lol
Forest Fifer   |2008-06-06
Shockingly bad.
Kev   |2008-06-06
So heinous that it's actually sad
Matt .V.   |2008-06-06
These kits are more than shite! all Charlton fans will be embarraced! wtf are Charlton doin! you wud of thought a decent side like them cud get a decent kit make or at least a better design by Joma. Shocking.
Scat   |2008-06-06
Apart from the sponsor I think this is actually very good
aLeC   |2008-06-06
ONE OF THE BEST PAIR OF CHARLTON KITS I HAVE EVER SEEN!!!
Ant   |2008-06-06
:grin :grin :grin It's like having Nike kits sponsored by Adidas!! However the shirt is crap
beesfan   |2008-06-06
they look like a poor french ligue 1 teams kits. just makes charlton seem that bit more championship than premiership.

joma have once again produced an awful set of designs.

:? :? :? :? :?
gervillian swike   |2008-06-06
What in Sam Hill is going on with that home shirt? It's an awful moment when your team turns up with a truly bad strip and you know you've got to live with it, and the fact that every other supporter acknowledges that your kit is rotten, for at least a year. Well Charlton, it looks like your turn now. Do yourself a massive favour and bin Joma immediately.

On the plus side, Joma also do Cardiff's kit, so if they manufacture one for them as bad as this, every football supporter will surely be happy.
Ryan   |2008-06-06
No doubts about it, that home shirt...is...absolutely...MINGING.

Bad times for Joma...

The 06-08 kit was great but this is plain unpleasant!... I was actually looking forward to getting the new kit but maybe not.

Like many Charlton fans we'd always hoped we would change kit sponsors... I

Lets hope that we get promoted, as this is a one-year deal, and hopefully we will sign a lucrative sponsor once we are in the premiership!!! Why are we sponsored by a 'yoof' brand of JD anyway? Can't we just have the simple JD logo on our shirts? As for the kits, there is too much white on the home kit, and not enough on the away kit! :cry
hellyes4cress   |2008-06-06
What the hell are they wearing? The away shirt looks like the current German kit gone horribly wrong. The home one looks like something a 7 year old would have designed on Pro Evo.
Ian cafc fan  - mr   |2008-06-07
this is by far worst kit ever made anyone that is not on coke will not buy it 0/5
pwndexter   |2008-06-07
i waited all this time, and they bring THIS out?
this is, as has already been said, a pro evo kit. the south london reds. where is our identity with this sack of toss.
what is this substandard sponsor? we look like a league two club (at that), not a club that was tussling with the greats 18 months ago.
nice one steve waggott, the first thing you do when you get here is get your blind mate to choose the kit.

but, to be fair, i know i'll buy it. only out of principle.
this season, visually, might as well not exist.
Bacon   |2008-06-07
Shit
Philip   |2008-06-07
Oh dear! igh
Adam   |2008-06-07
Poor Charlton Fans, i feel sorry for you to have a shit set of kits. hopefully you will be rewarded with promotion. Go Leeds!
steff   |2008-06-07
haha totally agree.
sw   |2008-06-07
shit
leEDs   |2008-06-07
You know what you're gonna get with Joma...absolute shite. Is a colourblind 2 year old their head designer?
Shakermaker   |2008-06-07
Charlton now have officially taken Marseille's Number 1 spot for having the worlds chaviest kit!!!
Carbrini indeed, truly shocking.....JD Sports isnt even a real sports shop.
steveo   |2008-06-09
i hope to god Cardiff who also have joma bring out a kit that looks like that, its disgusting and looks like a non league teams kit
steveo   |2008-06-09
meant to say, hope they don't :grin
joeyR  - kit     |2008-06-09
this kit is shocking a real embaressment to our team.
CSG   |2008-06-10
Am I the only person in the world who likes the home kit!!?? Although the away kit is shocking and the sponsor couldnt be worse...
AMC   |2008-06-10
Let's face it...the home shirt looks like it should be on a pub team and the away ???
Actually the away, with the off-set quarters, is probably based on the training/warm-up shirts that Parma FC were using last season....only worse!
dc   |2008-06-10
Its like the owner of Joma's son came in for work experience and had a go at designing a "cool" version of the Charlton kit. One nifty asymmetric design later... "Don't worry son. Its only those poor saps, they wont care, they're used to crap kits - remember their terrible centenary one?".

Cheers Joma.
Woody   |2008-06-11
Well, I'm a Charlton fan and I'm quite pleased...

Please that I'm going to be saving 80 quid this season by not buying these horrible kits, that is...

Why can't we ever get a half-decent kit manufacturer and sponsor? Not had a decent one since adidas back in the 80s.
Ray SENIOR  - "MR"   |2008-06-11
I wouldn't use this kit to wipe my bell end after a really messy session with a bird who has eaten a vindaloo the night before aswell as is on the blob .... and ive just done her in both hole's.

..................the red/brown mixture would be insulted to be on there i think .................the kit's filth and i am charlton through n through !!!

Kit maker does not matter ....sponsor does as it shows what level of success is applied to your club .......another bad year and we'l be lucky to get "happy shopper" !!
SE25   |2008-06-14
A pikey design and a pikey sponsor.

Sums up Charlton perfectly.
SE7   |2008-06-15
Pikey? And this from a Croydonite? TWAT! :roll
SE25   |2008-06-15
Quote from your chief executive:

"It is the culmination of a long journey by horse and cart by our commercial team to find the right sponsor for the club."
Dave   |2008-06-17
Unlucky gervilian swike, seems as though the Bluebirds are getting a special kit in celebration of their last year at Ninian Park, which is a retro 70's kit, all blue with a yellow and white stripe on the side.

Seems you uneducated types need to grow up, and stop taking swipes at the mighty FA Cup finalists just because your jealous

Bet you're a Leeds fan, aren't you?
Adam   |2008-06-22
Hey, shut it! I'm a Leeds fan! Don't bring us into this.
Anonymous   |2008-06-24
i love the new charlton kit

ITS ALL MICHAEL REA'S FAULT... HE GETS DESIGNS OF ABOUT 10 DIFFERENT SHIRTS AND HE PICKS THE ONE HE WANTS...HE'S THE RETAIL MANAGER AT THE VALLEY IF YOU WANT SOME MOB MENTALITY...!!!!!!
