Chelsea 2008-2009 Away Adidas Football kit E-mail
Thursday, 12 June 2008

chelsea_08_09_away_adidas_kit.jpg

Chelsea unveiled their new black away kit and goalkeeper kit for the 08/09 season made by Adidas. Chelsea's traditional away colours are all yellow or all white with blue trim, but, as with most teams, they have had some more unusual ones.

The first away strip consisted of black and white stripes and for one game in the 1960s the team wore Inter Milan-style blue and black stripes, again at Docherty's behest. Other memorable away kits include a mint green strip in the 1980s, a red and white checked one in the early 90s and a graphite and tangerine addition in the mid-1990s. The 2007/2008 Chelsea away strip consists of an 'electric yellow' shirt.

masinho   |2008-06-12
they say that chelsea influence refs to gain an advantage so now they have gone 1 better n r dressin like them pmsl

jokes aside looks quite similar to 06/08 home shirt, but is definately nicer than new home shirt.

but adidas are getting worse each year if you ask me? no invention, watch out liverpool this is your new away kit
fisherprice   |2008-06-12
its plain but thank god it hasent got that massive collar on it like the home one !!!

Yaaaaaaaaawwwwwwnn!

Sorry, what?
Jon   |2008-06-12
It's ok, nothing special and is certainly better than the hi-vis yellow of last season. I can only assume that the yellow and blue shirt we've seen leaked on this site (and elsewhere) be the away kit for Champions League matches (and third kit domestically).

Anyhow I doubt we'll see the keeper kit get used at the same time as the away kit, even the most myopic referee can tell the kits clash so we'll be seeing Cech wear his bright orange kit even more now. Not sure why Adidas opted for an away keeper kit in almost a similar colour to the player kit :?
Rob   |2008-06-12
No more 'Are you Stewards in disguise?' chant, now it'll be 'Are you (insert Ref's name here) in disguise?'

I quite like the kit, but it's still Chelsea at the end of the day, much better than their rubbish home strip with the dodgy collar...
scott   |2008-06-12
I THOUGHT THERE AWAY KIT WAS GOING TO BE YELLOW BUT NOT BAD TOP BUT LOOKS LIKE A GOALIE TOP
cronaldo7   |2008-06-12
This kit is boring as can be. If the white was blue, it would be the best kit Chelsea's ever had. Also, what is with the keeper kits lately being similar to the field player kits? It's so easy to pick a contrasting color and they can't even do that right.
masinho   |2008-06-12
also wat is it with changing the colour of the badge to match the kit it looks well tacky, if they did that on a villa kit id be well peeved,

It wouldn't apply to Steve Bennett though, he's Man Yoo's bumlicker ref.
Matt   |2008-06-12
I love adidas, but where's the originality? All of their kits these days look the same, they just have palette swapped colours. It wouldn't be so bad if it was only used by one team...but it's not...
Cnut   |2008-06-12
Wonder if they'll ever win in this one... the new home one hasn't been very lucky.... Mwahaha
sw   |2008-06-13
not a fan of how chelsea change their crest colour to go with their jerseys
Jeff   |2008-06-13
Looks like Chelski is just copying United's away kit from 07/08.

Boring kit..

The collar is very much better than home kit one.
briangoesroar  - hmm.   |2008-06-13
Not the greatest kit ever (I agree with the above posts that the white should be blue and that it's not sexy how Chelsea change their crest colors to match the kits), but atleast it's better than the 07-08 neon yellow massacre.

Hopefully the 3rd kit would be better?
Anonymous   |2008-06-13
nothing special, i think tottenhams black kit is probly better, they've tried to keep it simple like uniteds but its too simple there is just nothing different about it.
Nick   |2008-06-13
The coller is generic of Euro 2008 adidas collers.
The goalie cannot/will not be able to wear the black goalie shirt, the kit is dull really-aside the teccie stuff nothing spectaculer.
Jon_ SA  - Mull this over...   |2008-06-13
I like the collar....but that's about it.
If it's supposed to be simplistic it doesn't work at all.
Nike can barely pull of simplistic designs because they don't have to worry about incorporating broad white stripes (that end in the middle of nowhere) down their sleeves.
I'm pretty disgusted at how all the major brands have been dumbing down their designs recently. Look at the innovative kits from the World Cup 2006 and compair them to the "less-is-more" kits at Euro 2008. Even Puma have managed to make the very few good kits they had look bad (ie. italy)
Maybe it's just me ,but are all premiership clubs going for that MLS look?
Very, very disappointed.

avatar Real Madrid moved to London?
danwho   |2008-06-13
Although I wouldn't argue the same comments as others, I can see their points. However, my biggest gripe is the adidas logo in the middle makes it seem more like a training shirt than an actual away playing kit.

The three stripes certainly seems to be a poisoned chalice, most people seem bored with it, yet when they dropped it from Bayern's kit a couple of seasons ago there was outcry. Still, I'm sure Nike, puma, umbro etc would love to have such a recognisable trademark!
Prodigy   |2008-06-13
This kit is so......simple. Black, and white adidas trim. Nothing else. Not good at all.

And Ballacks face... xD
Aaron - Belfast   |2008-06-13
I think it's a great kit.

This is gonna be our year - I can feel it... just wait and see, you pack of cunts.
lampardisaprick   |2008-06-13
a crap shirt for a BRAND CHELSKI with every day i hate them more. No History No fan base No class
Anonymous   |2008-06-13
The goalie kit is nice, better than that pinky orange home kit
Josh   |2008-06-13
I've got one major question! Where is the contrast between home and away shirt? Let's say they play Everton, what will they do? They can't wear the blue shirts, but the black jersey's are also too similar to Everton's home shirts. German club Hannover 96 had to change their red jersey's against Energie Cottbus because the opponent wore bright orange shirts, this is the same. Seems like Chelsea needs two Away shirts, one for matches against teams with dark jersey's and one for games against teams with bright ones.
walcott   |2008-06-13
Classy but not interesting. Cant read blue when its on black, so they have to use white lettering. Not fond of the white part of the bottom of the sleeve...looks like they are wearing too large a shirt under the kit.
myso   |2008-06-13
Heh, strange to see Peter Cech without his helmet.
Rab   |2008-06-13
Well they all think they can referee the game anyway so they might as well wear a Ref's kit. Or are they still in mourning after winning nothing last season!
Anonymous   |2008-06-14
:grin NICEST KIT EVER! :grin

Clean. I like the fact Chelsea adapt the colour of the crest to go with the shirts. (unlike what some idiots have been saying in this thread)

Do some research first. Chelsea are the only English club in the top flight that have NEVER moved stadium. They still remain at Stamford Bridge from day one.

No history you say? Hmmm, interesting...

I quite like it, although I would agree about changing the badge colour. They did that for last seasons one too. Destroyed many a retina!
balak   |2008-07-03
i think this shirt more beauty if put "air asia.com" side badges like reffery..HAhaHAahHAHA......sh*t shirt
Mike C   |2008-07-05
Boring.......what a shame i usually like the Chelsea kits.A least the fluro yellow kit had a bit of character.
I wish teams would move away from the black kits.
