Saint-Etienne 08/09 Home and Away Adidas kits E-mail
Tuesday, 01 July 2008

saint_etienne_08_09_adidas_kits.jpg

Saint-Étienne unveiled the new 08/09 Home and Away kits made by Adidas. A.S. Saint-Étienne was created in 1919 by members of the Amicale des employés de la Société des magasins Casino: members of the employees' Union of the Casino grocery chain.

Since green was the colour of the chain, green jerseys were also adopted. Due to FFF regulations, the commercial name Casino was dropped from the club's name in 1920. In order to keep the initials A.S.C, however, the club was re-named Amical Sporting Club.

the second shirt is of Bayer Leverkusen, but modified

avatar All manufacturers have templates that clubs either purchase the rights to or are sponsored by a manufacturer to use. it isn't like they actually copy one another. lol
rodsrodsrods   |2008-07-01
I'm constantly amused by St.-Etienne's ability to ruin shirts with great templates...
Well...I guess I could even say that for almost every single team in France anyway...
FDV     |2008-07-01
avatar pretty good the home one

I like the away one.I love black and green shirts, even if this light green is not the best green avalaible.. also the design is cool.
Nivag   |2008-07-01
I like it, but like all French Clubs, way too many sponsors.
jml2028   |2008-07-02
agreed, way too busy.
Kallenovsky   |2008-07-02
avatar I love both. I agree that they are a bit busy and I'm often not a fan of that type of kit, but these are beautiful to me.

yea alot of french clubs have wayyy too many sponsors on their shirts .... only lyon marseille psg sochaux and bordeaux are decent
Anonymous   |2008-07-02
They could've cleaned it up a bit by getting rid of the oversized text and just having the Konica Minolta logo made larger and put in its place. What's the use of having it say the company's name twice?
Anyway, they're both very decent kits. Would've like to see the back of them though. Nice to see Adidas being creative with their designs again. Hard to believe that this is the same company that designed Chelsea's kits...

French shirts remind me of the suits Racing Drivers wear - Covered in sponsorship.
SpursXI   |2008-07-02
The templates and colours are really nice, but it wud b so much nicer if the giant writing was removed "L'oire" was put where it was and the littler 'Konica Minolta' logo moved to the breast where the 'L'oire' logo was originally placed. oh well!

St. Etienne kits r always one of da most colorful..any news of Nantes'?
Nick   |2008-07-02
I know it is a cliche to say it but St Etienne always have great kits ( unfortunatlly never usually have great teams but hey-hum!) and these are excellent, the 2-tone green looks superb together(all those who are currentlly going through their lime green phase take note.).The shorts and socks are excellent together.
because they are French the only gripe is too amny sponcers, but that aside it is all good.

avatar One of few adidas shirts that I really like. Home shirt is nice, so much better that the one from last season, and away is also nice. It remembers me on Joker from Batman film
LFCfanatic9   |2008-07-02
The two-toned green is growing on me, but I would ahve preferred white highlights. I think the green tones of the uniform are influenced by the 70's and 80's kits. Very good kit and I'm going to enjoy wearing it.

True, too many sponsors, but St. Etienne is a small city of around 200,000 compared to the multi-million population of Lyon, Paris, and Marseille. Plus, with many of the top players picked off to the bigger clubs in France and all over the world, it's tough to clinch a European spot.

Die-hard American Liverpool support since 1996, but my in-laws are all from and still live in St. Etienne. The atmosphere at the Stade Geoffroy-Guichard is almost on par with the atmosphere at Anfield. Lyon is close as well, but you'll only hear it from me unofficially!

Allez Les Rouge!
Allez Les Verts!

Sorry to contradict you, but Lyons atmosphere is far from being as good as anfield or Geoffroy-Guichard

Regarding the kits I found them nice, but was expecting something better...
danwho   |2008-07-02
Love 'em but I'm biased as St Etienne are my French team!

Still too busy to get a 5/5 though.
KGC   |2008-07-02
So Loire is the river they fished these kits out of,is it?
Anonymous   |2008-07-03
Great kits, a third set is expected too, for the UEFA cup.
DKool   |2008-07-03
hot design, just like last year's
Anonymous   |2008-07-04
Debatable, but I see your point. The last time I saw Lyon play was against Lille back in '05 at Stade Gerland. Even though Lyon lost 1-3, they whole crowd was still very upbeat full credit to them.

I hate to give Lyon credit because I'll technically be Stephanois soon and we're always the underdogs. The Eagles and the Green & Whites are amazing and I love watching St. Etienne play when I visit a few times a year. C'est vrai. Ici, c'est le Chaudron!

Love them, but nothing ever will beat the atmosphere at Anfield. That is the the pinnacle of football even better than Old Toilet which has absolutely no atmosphere. I'm sure a few new Manc supporters will disagree with me, but they've never been and probably never will.

But "unofficially" they had a decent shirt last year.
LFCfanatic9   |2008-07-04
And as for something better, I see your point as well.

But after the last two three Adidas kits, I have to say that this is the best one yet after Daurig. It's the template anyway and I was fully expecting something like this. Didn't see the light green coming.

I'm guessing that the GK kit will be similar to Liverpool's. Janot will probably want something insane but he can wear the away kit. It is growing on me, but still too mint-chocolate chip like.
Hong Kong Jamie   |2008-07-07
Great shirts from one of my favourite teams. Last year's away shirt was a classic but these two are right up there. As for the sonspors, I think they add to the shirt if done properly as has been done on this occasion. I think Mexican teams can rival the French for cramming advertising onto their shirts. Scandinavian and Austrian teams also do it a lot including plastering adverts on the shorts.

si estan bien lo unico k me gusta son los coleres y la combinacion de elloz pero como que les falta algo,
realmente los que me gustan mas de francia son los del marsella siempre destacan un poco mas de la linea adidas...
