Hannover 96, in association with Under Armour and TUI, unveiled their new shirts for the 2008/2009 season to the gathered media. 96 players Mike Hanke, Hanno Balitsch, Mario Eggimann, Jan Schlaudraff and Florian Fromlowitz modelled the new home, away and goalkeeper shirts. Main club sponsor TUI will once again have their famous ‘smile’ on the front of the shirts, while Hannover 96 become the first club in European football to have their whole team supplied by Under Armour.

96 sporting director Christian Hochstätter declared himself "very pleased with the design, style and functionality. I’m also delighted we have created a professional partnership with Under Armour, which will be very beneficial for Hannover 96."

As pioneers in textiles for team sports, Under Armour bring their experience and expertise from College Football in America to Germany. Peter Mahrer, European director of Under Armour, explained "the new Hannover 96 shirt is designed to match the exact requirements of football." The shirts, shorts and socks are all made of ‘HeatGear’ material which regulates perspiration, ensuring that players remain cool and flexible, even when exerting themselves in high temperatures.

Return of the TUI "Smile"

From 2002-2006 Hannover 96 wore the ‘smile’ of travel agent TUI on their shirts, and this season sees a return to the logo. "It wasn’t difficult to reach the decision to return to the TUI logo," explained Michael Lambertz, marketing director of TUI, "the TUI smile is internationally known, and also very popular with the fans.

Ironic really, a company that made a name for itself by producing skin-tight undershirts has now produced jerseys that look a good two sizes too big for most of those players.

I like the new Hannover kit. Less is more.
