Tuesday, 08 July 2008
The pre-round poll for the best EPL football shirt of the year has ended. With a total of 3289 votes in the last 4 days the 10 winners who will go into the Football Boots awards 2008 on Footy-Boots.com are : Arsenal, Aston Villa, Bolton Wanderers, Fulham, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Portsmouth and Sunderland.
We will be focusing our attention on setting up an FSC (world-wide) football shirt award for 2009 and any feedback on how to make next year's football shirt award a honest one is welcome.
Footy-Boots.com will be launching the Football Boots Awards 2008 on the 21st July.
I've always been a fan of Man U but there's no way that last year's home shirt could be considered a great design by any stretch of the imagination.
Ditto Liverpool, which was pretty bland and shouldn't have ended up anywhere near the top 5.
Sadly, it seems people will vote for their own team irrespective of the design so I can't really see what you can do to make sure any future vote is 'honest'.
It's obvious that ManCity, Manu and Sunderland fans were posting this link on there fans message forums to vote over and over again. The pompey shirt was by far the best... how can anyone say Manu shirt was the best is a joke. Im a Gooner and even I didnt vote for our top.
I suppose one way to try and get fairer votes is when a person registers they choose their football team they support and it automatically gets top vote and then count the second votes, like in Eurovision and World Idol type contests. In the case of nonEPL fans, such as myself (a proud Aussie Wolf) then our top vote would count. With a delay before the vote is counted, it could allow to check up on registrations to make sure no one registered a bogus name to boost their team's votes.
If only people would see it as feedback on what others thought of the design of their shirt, rather than something personal, but then maybe I'm too idealistic (gotta be I guess to support Wolves AND Motherwell! )
