Derby County 08-09 Third Adidas Kit E-mail
Sunday, 31 August 2008

derby_county_08_09_third_adidas_kit.jpg

Derby County revealed their new blue-and-white-striped third shirt for the first time in the Coca-Cola Championship clash at Barnsley.

It's a top not worn since the glory days of the 1970s but has been introduced following feedback from fans who have said that it was one of their favourite Derby County kits.

And it is being worn for a match earlier than planned after proving popular with the players - who have already tasted victory in the new home and slime-green away shirts.

Argentine striker Tito Villa and Rams legend Archie Gemmill both donned the kit for these exclusive verdicts and Villa is particularly keen to wear it in action for the first time.

He said: "I like the new kit. It is very different to our other kits but it is very nice.

"It also reminds me of the Argentina kit so I am looking forward to playing in it and hopefully I will score a few goals in it too."

Gemmill enjoyed success in blue and white during the 1970s and admitted that the kit re-ignited memories of some of his great times as a Ram.

"We wore blue and white under Dave Mackay and did well with that shirt," Derby's 1975 title-winning captain said.

"It is the same as the Argentina kit and they are obviously a very good team to follow so hopefully it can bring the players some luck this season.

"The kit feels absolutely superb to wear and if the players can play as well as the shirt feels there will be no problems for the rest of the season."

Revealing the new third kit now gives Derby fans the best opportunity to decide which one they prefer.

It reminds Tito of the Argentina kit ? The only thing missing on the shirt is the Argentina Football Assoc. badge.

No disrepect to Archie Gemmil but I think I prefer good looking young ladies posing in new shirts than 60+ blokes. Makes me think how my grandad would look in a kickabout in the park if he suddenly turned up in the latest kit.

I remember my scholl team back in April 1982 purchasing a set of Argentina style kit. We wore them once, war broke out and they never saw the light of day again. Hope the same doesn't happy to Derby.

I feel much the same but really Archie was an obvious candidate, with the connection to 1978 and waltzing through the Dutch defence ...

I actually like this kit, i prefer it to the home shirt. Obviously it would be a massive departure for Derby to get rid of the White kits permanently but i'd prefer to see them running about in this kit that the white training kit Adidas has provided for this season. Oh and don't get me started on the away kit. It is the worst kit EVER, i'd rather see Derby play in poo brown than slime green!

Argentina paul jewell looks like hadadonna not marodona derby are poo lol
pachyderm   |2008-09-01
avatar not bad.
Fletch   |2008-09-01
heheh...Poo brown.. ; ) nice one.
yeah its a nice shirt, but un-necessary really... I mean.. a third kit is normally meant to be a departure from their other strips.... (?)

Home kit = predominantly white

2nd away kit = predominantly white

makes no foookin sense at all.....

This is why derby was relegated, they have some old man in their side THIS ISN'T A PUB LEAGUE!
Hertha BSC   |2008-09-01
Why is the blue with in the Club-Logo?!!
KRAP   |2008-09-01
Horrible... and it won't make then win a game
Jimbo   |2008-09-01
Adidas are a top brand, but they've let Derby down with each of their 3 kits this season. They look so cheap... this particular one has a basic collar on an out-of date Argentina shirt.

archie gemmill is better than the current team .
bluenose_jack   |2008-09-02

I'd imagine the Gemmil link would have been the fact he probably wore the strip back in the 70's!!!
