The new PES 2009 football video game features – for the first time – European football's biggest club competition, the UEFA Champions League.

The game is part of an exclusive 4-year licensing deal between Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd and UEFA. PES 2009 will feature exclusive elements, attributes and equipment of the competition to create a unique UEFA Champions League mode within the game.

"The Pro Evolution Soccer series is synonymous with football being played at the highest level, which makes it perfect for hosting the best club football competition in the world," said UEFA. "We are delighted that PES 2009 will feature the UEFA Champions League and look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with Konami."

"This deal showcases our commitment to taking PES 2009 forward in terms of licences and realism," Konami Digital Entertainment Co., Ltd president Kunio Neo said.

"The UEFA Champions League is the jewel in the club competition crown, and is just one of many innovations we have lined up for the new game. We can promise fans a number of exciting advances, which will be announced in the coming months."

It\'s a step in the right direction. The next PES target needs to be FIFA; the sooner FIFA dumps EA Sports the better. The ultimate aim should be clubs from virtually every country in the world, just like Sensible World Of Soccer.

The good thing is that Liverpool FC (logos, kits and all) is now exclusive to Konami, so starting next season they can no longer be included in FIFA titles. This is a great tactic by Konami because the FA Premier League exclusive license to EA ends next year. With the Liverpool exclusive license you have to believe the FA Premier League will go non-exclusive or exclusive to Konami otherwise fans will be screwed.

The new PES has received mixed reviews, but I honestly think it is a good game. Obviously not ground-breaking, but the new features, graphics and improved game play is a plus. FIFA is doing fairly well and has improved game play tremendously, but issues like manager mode being far too simple and fake and poor editing features among many other things prevented me from making the purchase this year.
