Sahara India said it has got a sponsorship proposal from top English Premier League side Manchester United.

Sahara's head of Corporate Communications Sahara Abhijit Sarkar confirmed that the business group has received a proposal from Manchester United.

"Yes! We have definitely received a proposal from Manchester United. It is an elaborate proposal from Manchester United. We are still studying it and I cannot comment further," Sarkar said.

"We received the proposal few days back. The dialogue has not yet started. We will decide when to revert back. But at present it is not yet decided," he said.

If this proposal gets through, it would be the first sponsorship by the group at the international level in a sport played in over 200 countries.

The Sahara India pariwar logo and name is a common sight with national Cricket team members donning them on their shirts.

A United official said, "We've been in touch with a lot of sponsors and hope to strike something in the near future." Sahara corporate communication head Abhijit Sarkar has also confirmed receiving the proposal from United, but refused to make any further comments.

The reports also say that Richard Arnold, United's commercial director, has already sent a proposal letter to Sahara, along with other materials, which include the team's shirt with the Sahara logo, and a collection of photographs in which players like Rooney and Ronaldo are wearing kits with the company's name on it.

What\'s wrong with American owned? If you do not like the US, it should be because of the government. Not anything else! No need to be ignorant.

As far as I know AIG are bankrupt, so Manchester United are looking for a sponsor. I think the logo on the cricket shirt (given above) will look better than the one in the article. The logo is good but the \'India Pariwar\' wouldn\'t look good.
Okay, fine, I Indian!

No problem with the logo, as long as the colours weren\'t included, at least on the red shirt. It would be a step too far to include colours that weren\'t the team\'s naturally - and that\'s the same for every club.

If Manunited get Sahara to sponsor their kits then I\'m gonna change teams and support Liverpool! This is beyond ridiculous, it is absolutely 100% U-G-L-Y.

I don\'t think sahara would spend $100m .there was also talk of newcastle being taken over by an indian company which came to nothing. football is not so popular in india and i don\'t think that anyone outside india will recognise the brand, they\'\'ll probably think the sponsors are nomads from the african desert!!
