Footy-Boots.com revealed exactly what the Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly will look like ahead of its official launch in just over 2 months time.
Along with the Nike Mercurial Vapor V, one of the most eagerly awaited football boots to be launched this year is the Nike Mercurial Vapor Superfly, the successor to the carbon fibre Vapor SL.
The incorporated Flywire technology is based on a sprint spike concept which caused huge interest when it was introduced in Beijing for the 2008 Olympic Games.
Already creating quite a buzz in the industry with its revolutionary lightweight construction, the Flywire design is said to be inspired by the cables from a suspension bridge. It basically makes use of a strong Vectran thread arranged in a fan-shaped pattern at anchor points around the shoe.
At the time of the track shoe launch, creator Jay Meschter said:
"Flywire gets to that elusive thing of the plate just attaching to the bottom of the foot and forgetting about the shoe. It also gets Nike one step closer to achieving one of Bill Bowerman’s goals.
"When he was a coach, he said the ideal track spike would be a nail through the foot. Now, with Flywire, it’s not quite as extreme as a nail, but it’s as close as anyone has gotten to applying a spike plate directly to feet."
From that description, it’s not hard to see why Nike football boot designers have been keen to integrate the new technology in their line of work.
As for their on pitch debut, one school of though is that Cristiano Ronaldo could wear them in Manchester United’s Uefa Champions League second leg match against Inter Milan at Old Trafford on 11th March. However, he’s also a candidate to first show the Mercurial Vapor V. So it may turn out be be a toss up between the two.
The Superfly will be available to the public from Spring '09, as the new top of the range Vapor boot. Price will be in the region of £190.00

Yet again another money-driven attempt by Nike. Total lack of effort.
Wow ya know that was such a convincing argument that I completely agree with you. God how could I have been so stupid not to see it.
I mean honestly what kind of boot do you wear? If it\'s anything produced within the last 50 years you are a hypocrite.
Plus the boot hasn\'t come out yet, and unless you are the greatest footballer ever, and you get to test out every new boot, you don\'t know anything about the boot.
You don\'t like the colour scheme and therefore you don\'t think the boot is of any quality. So well done formulating an intelligent argument.
They tangerines for cereal, and I decree soccer the world\'s only food. Soccer is more than a sport, it\'s a lifestyle and food. Soccer rocks.
