German customs investigators have seized almost 10 million counterfeit football shirts and scarves of major European clubs, German magazine Focus reported.

The magazine said customs investigators have uncovered a flourishing business in fake football shirts. Since autumn 2008, officials have seized an estimated 10 million counterfeit football fan merchandize including shirts and scarves.

Citing the German customs criminal office, the magazine said more than half of the seized goods sported badges and logos of major German Bundesliga clubs. Bayern Munich, Schalke and Borussia Dortmund topped the list.

“We’ve never seized goods in these numbers before,” Wolfgang Schmitz, spokesman of the German customs office told the magazine.

The report said that an Asian organized gang was making the counterfeit products in sweatshops in China. The goods were then smuggled via Antwerp, Belgium, the Netherlands or Hamburg to Europe.

Footy shirts are made in Thailand (among other places) anyway and should be much cheaper than 40 quid a pop.

Even if its the right colours doesnt mean that its made to Nike\'s/Adidas\' size requirements, materials and whatever makes the shirt an official shirt.

Unfortunately people buy these bads of ****, i would maul somebody who brought that england shirt in that picture. And loads of \"fans\" who buy these shirts, despite the stupid high prices on real merc, are doing nothing to support their clubs apart from making these fake traders make more crap like it.

My view on it anyways, others might love these

well german custom, you havent got mine!

My celtic shirt, arsenal shirt-all current season- and 99,9% near the official one, passed german customs in Frankfurt airport. Even got the note/mark passed customs control.

As i said you get cheap looking fakes and cheap fakes. Cheap looking fakes are being sold in spain, italy and northern africa. But the stuff you can get in turkey, thailand and china is produced by the same factories as the originals with most of the original parts. but you will not pay 39 Pounds but 7-9 Pounds. That is enough for football shirts. Everything beyond that is a rip off!! And the embarassing story about work and labour getting lost?? No !!they already produce in far east and that will remain.

Just bad for the sareholders of ADIDAS, NIKE and Co. But dont give a fuxx bout them!

Buy more fakes, screw the big brands!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hasta la victoria siempre B)

I for one have no problem buying fake, as well as original tops, clubs like United & Chelsea, Barca, Madrid, Inter & milan all change their home & away every single year. they also hike up the price with no massive strides in design!
adidas are charging 48 for new shirts this year, last year it was 45, we are in a global recession so their expenses are down!!!
I will contiune to buy fake as long as they keep ripping us off, clubs are not charties I pay enough for Sky, Setanta & other merchandise not to feel any guilt about the clubs most of whom are spendthrift with money anyway!

They aren\'t seizing individual ones just ones in a big haul like this:

In this photo provided by Italian anti-fraud police, officials display fake labels seized at Rome\'s Ciampino military airport, Tuesday, May 26, 2009. Italy\'s anti-fraud police say they have seized 15,000 fake labels with Manchester United and Barcelona logos on the eve of the Champions League final between the two soccer teams. Police said that the labels were shipped from China.
