Standard Charter eye Liverpool sponsor deal

Liverpool are seeking a big-money shirt sponsorship deal with banking firm Standard Charter tipped to end Carlsberg's 17-year association with Liverpool.

The London-based giants were set to secure the rights to have their name on Manchester United's shirts from next season but were pipped at the post by insurance broker Aon.

Their current sponsor Carlsberg has indicated that its 17-year sponsorship of Premier League club Liverpool may not be extended. Due to end in mid 2010, Carlsberg had a contract preventing Liverpool from discussing a new deal with any other party until July 09.

It now seems likely that Liverpool have lined up a replacement in London-based banking giants Standard Chartered. Figures being rumoured suggest Liverpool could be almost doubling their current deal per annum, with £15 million a year being mentioned.

Should Carlsberg pull out as Liverpool’s official sponsor, it will be the end of the longest sponsorship partnership in the English Premier League, starting in 1992.

Anyone know what the longest-running sponsorship deal is of all?

I remember Leicester had Walkers for about a million years.

I believe the current record is held by Leicester City, who were sponsored by Walker\'s Crisps for a staggering 1,000,000 years.

It\'s just not cricket, is it? Liverpool and Carlsberg go together like Scousers and shellsuits.

Yeah, scousers are more likely to buy a lot of Carlsberg than need a bank.

We\'ve just spunked £40m on Glen fecking Johnson and an injury-prone Roma reserve who is already gonna miss the first two months of the season. We\'ve sold Xabi, arguably our most important player. Masch is desperate to join Barca. Gareth Barry and Carlos Tevez turned us down. Torres has got dodgy hamstrings. Carra\'s not getting any younger. Sami Hyypia, a dressing room leader, has gone. Arbeloa has jumped ship. We\'re trying to sign the likes of Lee Cattermole and Michael Turner FFS. Am I confident about this season? You bet I am! In Rafa we trust. Come on you Redmen! Believe!

Anyway, that sponser\'ll look hideous on a Liverpool shirt. They\'d have to convert it to White, cause the blue and green would not look good.

Anyway, it might make Liverpool kits look different, considering they\'ve had one that looks the same for nearly 17 years.

Obviously they would change the colours mate.
Chelsea\'s shirt is Samsung without the Blue oval.
The NORTHERN ROCK on Newcastle shirt\'s logo is different.
They will more than likely use White. I don\'t think the Logo
on the side will be on the shirt.
They will probs just have it written on like :
------STANDARD-------
-----CHARTERED------

FFS people crying over a LOGO on a football shirt. If I had the choice we\'d have NO Sponsor logo\'s on the shirt.

Wrong.

PSV does not have the longest shirt sponsorship - it is Geelong Football Club.

Their shirt sponsors have been Ford Motor Company since 1924 - 85 years straight.

I think you\'ll find that\'s a hard record to beat for a shirt sponsor! (Not my team by the way)

Ferguson\'s paid Carlsberg off to stop sponsoring us, I just know it. We\'ve got to do something about this anti-Liverpool corruption ring in English football.
