Scotland to sign Adidas Kit Deal

E-mail

scotland-adidas-kit-deal.jpg

Scotland are set to land a 5-year, £5million per year kit deal with kit manufacturer Adidas.

Scotland's six-year, £1million per year relationship with Diadora was terminated last month, after the Italian kit suppliers have gone bust.

Scotland will continue to wear Diadora shirts for the two remaining World Cup qualifiers.

The deal with adidas, will be the biggest in the Scottish national team's history and will come into effect after the 2010 qualifying campaign.

it\'s good that scotland are getting a widely known brand like adidas (plus if they use the money they\'re getting wisely, all\'s good - development of scottish football perhaps?)

that said, i do not see adidas making them a unique kit - not even russia did.
i personally see them getting a template shirt which could be customised (to reflect scottish culture?) like the russian home kit (which has those really cool birds on the front).

i would\'ve liked umbro to do their \'england\' style kit, that would be interesting imo

That seems a bit weird us having adidas... but it\'s a kit maker I like as long as we don\'t have the poncy Wolfsburg/Boro style template.

I like the current kit and hope we go for the same (classic) colouring; that\'d look mint with adidas.

Then all we need to do is ditch Burley, most of the SFA and get back to being a top 15 team like we were last year.

It would be better if it was Umbro as they would have kept the shirt nice and simple similar to England and Man City. I fear that Adidas may over complicate the design. The Adidas styles from the 70\'s and early 80\'s would have been perfect. The Adidas style now, I doubt it.

I feel sorry for the Scots, I really do. Despite all the barely literate sectarian obscenities you find in these forums, they are a truly great football nation.

No fans in the whole world are more passionate. I honestly think that. And, as a Leeds supporter, I know just how good the best Scots players can be. I remember Franz Beckenbauer once saying it was a \'privilege to be on the same pitch\' as Eddie Gray, and commendations don\'t come much higher than that.

But where are those players now? Why did the production line stop? Where is the new Archie Gemmill, Jimmy Johnstone, Billy Bremner, Jim Baxter, Gary McAllister and a hundred others? Sure, there are the one or two that you would expect, just as you would expect one or two from Finland or Slovenia now and then, but where\'s the depth?

This qualifying group was about as easy as Scotland could have got in their circumstances (ie, not having previously qualified). Norway are not that great. The future is not that bright. And it\'s a shame. Apart from anything else, the Tartan Army with their kilts and pipes enhance any world cup.

And who bloody cares what kit they wear?

Bren

Dundee United are Nike kits this year. Or were you just hoping they aren\'t going to be tangerine?!

Can only hope for a smart looking top, I\'m sure most people would be willing to pay for it, compared to the current design. Which isn\'t too bad. But Diadora kits do have a hint of \"diddy\" team about them.

Umbro, Fila and Diadora made some goddam awful strips. Apart from Newcastle\'s yellow on yellow strip adidas are miles ahead as far as classics are concerned. Look at the French national side\'s kit.
For Scotland\'s home I would suggest navy body with two white outer stripes and a red inner stripe, white shorts with 2 navy and 1 red stripe and socks with 2 navy and 1 red stripe.
Away top should be yellow with red stripes, red shorts with yellow stripes and yellow socks with red stripes.

adidas hasn\'t got to being one of the easiest identified brands in the world for nothing. Umbro designers are very tunnel visioned - in fact an 11 year old could design a Man City, Rangers or England shirt and all companies can expect technical hiccoughs from time to time.
I think Ali Baba\'s idea of an England shirt is far more imaginitive ... mind you, it would really get under the skin of your racist skinhead idiots that let your country down time and time again. No wonder the entire world hates you!

Apologies to everyone for my fellow Scots moronic comments. It's no coincidence that while we now lack decent footballers, we have too many illiterate, neddy f**ks who are more than happy to stick a knife in their Scottish brothers.

Anyway.

Keeping football strips simple is the way forward. If you want a classic strip, there's no point emblazoning it with too much stupid detail which will look ridiculous in 5 years time.

The Adidas trefoil IS the old skool Adidas sign. I think if Adidas get the collar right (white) and the smaller detailing then they could kick start a new trend in Adidas kits. Who knows what they have planned, but Scotland is one of the oldest International teams with a rich heritage and they would shift a million shirts in Scotland if done tastefully.

0 # Stonesthrower 2010-01-27 23:45
I would also suggest if the deal is £5million per annum. then Scotland will get some creative input., with an original design.

If they go the same way as the current England and Man City kits, only with Adidas on their shirts then I think that would be ideal.

Thing is, if they do, then you'll only hear screams from the burberry wearing neds who think that their 7 year old son could draw better than that. Or it's not got a shiny pocket for ma buckfast....

Like I said...idiots. Learn to read and write.

to many clubs are currently doing a retro feel to their shirts.

I hope it's quite a trendy top, and not a 70's retro top!!
