Adidas JABULANI - Official FIFA World Cup 2010 Match Ball

Adidas-jabulani-match-ball-9.jpg

This is the new World Cup 2010 Adidas Match ball which is available here. On December 4th, adidas and FIFA will officially unveil the adidas “JABULANI”, the Official Match Ball for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. The “JABULANI”, which means “to celebrate” in isiZulu, features a South African inspired design and radically new technology. The new match ball will be available in retail from December 5th onwards. See more pictures here.

The newly developed “Grip’n’Groove” profile provides the best players in the world with a ball allowing an exceptionally stable flight and perfect grip under all conditions. Comprising only eight, completely new, thermally bonded 3-D panels, which for the first time are spherically moulded, the ball is perfectly round and even more accurate than ever before.

The name:

The name ”JABULANI” originates from the indigenous language isiZulu, one of the eleven official languages of the Republic of South Africa, which is spoken by almost 25% of the population. Literally translated, “JABULANI” means “to celebrate”. Football is a passion that unites the world. The name of the new match ball appropriately pays tribute to the passionate football celebration international fans will enjoy in South Africa next summer.

The design:

Eleven different colours are used in the adidas “JABULANI”, the eleventh adidas World Cup ball. These 11 colours represent the 11 players in every team, the 11 official languages of South Africa and the 11 South African communities that make the country one of the most ethnologically diverse countries on the African continent. The colourful design brings together the tremendous diversity of the country in harmonious unity. Four triangle-shaped design elements on a white background lend the ball a unique appearance in African spirit. And like the outer facade of Johannesburg’s Soccer City Stadium, individual design elements also capture the colourfulness of South Africa.

3-D panel shapes:

The Match Ball for the 2010 FIFA World Cup features a completely new, ground-breaking technology. Eight 3-D spherically formed EVA and TPU panels are moulded together, harmoniously enveloping the inner carcass. The result is an energetic unit combined with perfect roundness. Following the first tests, players all over the world are enthusiastic and are promising many goals with the new ball.

Well I realy liked the last African Cup of Nations ball, and I hoped the design for the world cup ball would be a little bit like this. This one is completely different to the ball I expected...but nevertheless it's a great ball!

Very close to what I expected, actually, considering that shape was used a lot in the recent adidas ads.

Yeah, nah this is the real ball.

That ball was used for the Confed Cup.

I was just in a shop that released posters and displays for it:
here they are...

What in the world??? I bought this ball more than a week ago. I figured that it wasn't the real ball that would be used. Clearly, the store or someone screwed something up, as I have this ball in my possession several weeks before its release.

this design is really cool.
Are they different quality standards for the ball. Meaning different types like for pro's and for amateurs? with same design?

WOW! I think this report is a leak... neither Adidas nor FIFA say one word about it... I googled into : www.adidas.com/football/ and to footballs.fifa.com/ but not found anything....
Is for I read, the ball jabulani must be fifa approved to be used as official match ball.

I like it, I think I will buy one... or two...

Bustin...no offence but you're very mistaken as are several of you in this forum. Of course that's the new ball for the World Cup...they showed all the US retailers in Seattle at the MLS Cup 10 days ago. And I don't know why anyone would think it was the same ball as the Confederations Cup Ball Kopanya...clearly different.

The reason no one can google it is because the official release date is 12/4 at the WC Draw. So before then it is not supposed to be listed as pre-order or have any images shown. Obviously FSC is violating those terms, but what's adidas going to do?

In the US, upstate NY, right by my University, which I don't want to mention for various reasons. It's a very large retail chain though, I didn't buy it somewhere in Chinatown. The ball had the store's special packaging around it to make sure no one stole it. There were two or three more as far as I can remember.
