The Football Association of Thailand (FAT) has changed the national team's home kit colours from all red to yellow shirt and white shorts.

FAT secretary-general Ong-art Korsinka said yesterday the FAT had informed Fifa of the change while the all blue away kit remains unchanged.

Since October 2007, Thailand has used the yellow shirt which is the colour of the king Bhumibol Adulyadej and has used white shorts and white socks at the first kit for the celebrations on the auspicious occasion of his majesty the king’s 80th Birthday Anniversary on December 5.

Red is also an auspicious colour because it is one of the colours in the Thai national flag. However, yellow is more popular because it is the colour of the King who was born on Monday, he said.

"Yellow is a lucky colour and it is also the King's colour," Ong-art said.

"We performed well last year in yellow shirt and won the SEA Games so we decided to make it our uniform for home games." Fifa has approved the changed, he said.

You can still find the red Thailand Home shirt here

Sigh, now football is being politicised at the expense of the malaise in the country. Nothing wrong with the colour, but the timing of the change is disappointing.

Pls, Thailand has a wonderful tourism industry that supports its economy - dont ruin it with politics!

They should make the strip brown to match their noses after they\'ve been \'celebrating\' their king\'s Birthday ; a terrible reason to change the kit colour.
:-x

Terrible stuff - EVERY Royal Family in EVERY country should be deposed - the Nepalese had the right idea

What\'s the Thai for \"who really cares?\"

for people who don\'t know that the Thai people view their King as a semi-divine figure, keep your opinions to yourselves.

I\'m Thai and We love our king like we love our father because he is hard working for develop our country along 62 years!
It\'s eastern culture not western culture please respect our way like we respect you.

Humans need to evolve beyond the idea of a king being a \"divine figure\", absolute rubbish - \"all men are equal\" - no one is better than anyone else. FUCK ALL ROYAL FAMILES WORLD WIDE, they have been abusing humankind since recorded history began. Still, nice shirt I suppose

I agree with everyone who has criticised this decision. Why should anyone worship such parasitic monarchs and despots? They take away your power, your money and couldn\'t care less about you.

All yellow uniform look better than yellow-white-white!

:-x

Well done Tartan T, you are exactly type of fawning, lickspittle peasant that keeps these inbreds at the top of society. Wake up, they are bending you over each and every day, slaving away at your horrible little office job to pay for them whilst they quaff champagne and beat servants.

Anybody who has been to Thailand will have seen the number of people who daily wear yellow in genuine affection of their king and I think this should be respected.

Getting back to the football kit I like the change of colour. I only wish you could buy genuine Thai TBT national shirts (and those of their domestic league sides) in Thailand as easily as the copies you see everywhere, some of which are admittedly pretty good. Does anybody know where in Bangkok you can buy genuine Thai national shirts ?

Kop Koon Kap

why on earth do you lot care if people in Thailand change thier kit in respect of their king. if the people have a problem with it then they will complian. if they want to respect their king they can. you lot are a bunch of facists assuming it is wrong just because it isnt the way you would do it. grow up, people can do what they want

Fact is \"bennykill\" that devotion to another human that you will never know or meet being is almost as retarded as religion - Royal Families Worldwide = Parasitic Scum

Never expected this much attention given to the Thai national football team.

It\'s their decision, I personally appreciate that they\'ve made the decision on something that means a lot to them, and not some corporate means ie Nike says we have x amount of yellow shirts so change to yellow or get stuffed!

As for royalty - I think it is too much of a generalisation to tarnish ALL royalty with the same brush. Yes there have been some terrible monarchs. There have also been some terrible people who were wealthy. There\'s even been terrible things done in the name of football. Do we stop the good that is going on in football in order to stop the bad?

The argument about power and faceless agents who don\'t care for you - sounds like the state of modern football with players getting paid yearly salaries in a week and not giving a toss for the fans who pay their salaries. Feudal system in football hey?!  ...

Wonderful! It is much better than the red kit they had. And I particularly enjoy the reason for the kit change.
