Adidas, the world’s number one football brand, has returned to Anfield and is once again proud to supply the new kit for Liverpool Football Club.
adidas becomes the official kit and sportswear supplier in a sponsorship agreement that takes effect from July 2006.
The new adidas strips hark back to the glory days when adidas first supplied Liverpool FC. The home kit is of course traditional red, the away kit is yellow and the UEFA Champions League away kit is white and green.
As always for adidas, technology is at the forefront of the kit design. The shirt incorporates world-renowned ClimaCool and FlowMapping, a cooling system that allows sweat to escape while bringing cooling air into contact with the skin. The kit also features ForMotion technology - a highlight of adidas top performance apparel. The shirt was designed 3-dimensionally and engineered to fit a footballer’s body in motion and the seams are sewn flat to reduce irritation. The new kits also carry a number of design elements. All three shirts feature an embroidered Club Crest, the Liverbird embossed on the lower back and the classic adidas three stripes on the sleeves. A subtle pinstripe effect is carried on the home and away shirts and a collar features on the home kit.
Liverpool captain and England midfielder Steven Gerrard has fond memories of the adidas kits of the 80’s and said: "The style of the shirt reminds me of adidas kits that I have grown up with and hopefully we can repeat the success of the great Liverpool teams of the past who wore adidas kits. With the physical demands of football being as they are, technology is vital to ensure we are comfortable for 90 minutes and beyond. Having tested the strip, it is clear that the new kit will be beneficial to us all."
Liverpool FC Chief Executive Rick Parry said: "Liverpool FC and adidas are two great iconic football names, steeped in history and success. We had a very successful partnership in the 1980/90’s and are delighted to be teaming up again. adidas has a fantastic football heritage and their leadership in technology and innovation will be hugely beneficial. We are sure our fans will be delighted with the new kits."
Gil Steyaert, Managing Director, adidas Area North, added: "adidas has a long tradition of working with top football clubs globally, and Liverpool has always been one of the world’s leading teams. "Under the guidance of Rafa Benitez, Liverpool is returning to the top and adidas are proud to be back working with them."
adidas produced Liverpool's kit between 1985 and 1996. The new agreement takes effect from July 2006 in time for the start of the 06/07 season.
The five times European Champions join an exclusive list of clubs who benefit from adidas' expertise including Real Madrid, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Ajax, Olympic Marseille and the recently-signed Chelsea.
