Blackburn Rovers announce Nike Kit Deal

Blackburn Rovers has confirmed a new partnership that will see the club’s kit sponsorship move from Umbro to the Nike brand from the start of the 2013-14 season.

The Umbro sponsorship, which has been in place since 2007, will continue to the end of the current 2012-13 season, after which all kit, training wear and related products will be designed, manufactured and distributed by Nike until 2016.

The sports giant will be the official and recognised technical partner on all of Rovers’ replica kits, which will go on sale later this summer.

Greg Coar, Rovers’ Head of Commercial and Marketing, said: “We are delighted to confirm that Rovers are set to start a new partnership with Nike. We are certain that our supporters will be excited by this new partnership and will be looking forward to seeing the iconic blue-and-white halves and the world famous Nike brand on our kits this summer.”

Gareth Hosford, GM Nike UK Football, said: “We are delighted to add Blackburn Rovers to the Nike football family. We look forward to building on the successful partnership the club has already enjoyed with Umbro and working closely with the club and the fans over the coming seasons.”

Blackburn's kit hasn't really changed in decades so I don't think it will be an issue.

The Nike ethos is parallel to the american way of thinking. they want to be the biggest & best - in every form.

why dont you settle for knowing that Nike will be at the forefront of technology, and embossed into nearly every club in the english league. Adidas, however, will become more of prestige/retro supplier. adidas has the history, nike has the money.
the teams with the history, I think will be bestowed on the likes of real madrid, ac milan, liverpool, bayern, ajax, and river plate because of what, historically, those clubs have achieved.

I'm not against Nike doing generic shit,. means that adidas and Puma alike can do the cool stuff and use this as an opportunity to enhance their own agenda and aesthetic.

This is what adidas is all about:

Yes, those are the only teams with history. Ridiculous.

I totally agree. I mean the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal, Juventus, Barcelona and Celtic have no history when you compare them to the likes of Chelsea and Anzhi Makhachkala! Adidas would never tow the corporate line and put their iconic stripes on the shirts of the nouveau rich and filthy scrapers like Stoke City and Derby County!

Are you all on crack or some shit, Umbro is in the process of being shut down... dissolved and demolished.

Nike OWN Umbro and have decided to bin it which is a real shame as I've loved the stuff Umbro have put out in the last 3/4 seasons (under management of Nike) and apparently Nike are looking at brands such as Under Armour to add to their roster, Umbro will probably be bought by big fat Mike Ashley and go to the graveyard that is Sports Direct.

Agree NIKE = tech/corp ADIDAS = Heritage

When that many PR flacks claim to be "delighted", you can be sure of one thing - they're not really that happy.

Im actually really excited for these kits, despite people saying it will be a generic Nike kit, I think that considering blackburn have two colors on their kit it should be nice

Couldn't even leave Umbro with Blackburn? Nike really are gutting this once proud company like a fish before they toss the carcass back into the sea as discarded waste.

As an Everton fan, i have heard many people slate the LCS kits from the three previous seasons. Our first season with Nike produced 3 boring kits with the worst fabric that get pulls and bobbles just by looking at them (Dri FIt rubbish). Our 3 kits from our last season with LCS where absolute class, while the quality of the fabric was sensational. With any luck, we will not be with Nike beyond our 2 season contract. I hope you guys have more luck with Nike than the rubbish they have produced for us. Bring on Adidas or go back with LCS IMHO.

Again, f*** you Nike! You've absolutely gutted Umbro and shown little respect to a company that produces better quality goods than the crap you constantly bring out.

It's not that I 'hate' Nike..they make some nice kits...but the issue for me is two fold- 1) it's not as if Umbro has been the masters of their own demise..obviously they don't have the resources to compete with the big 3 but people liked their kits (ESP. The 'tailored by' range) but clearly Nike are in the process of demolishing them from the inside..a process that started when they bought them. 2) this brings me into my 2nd point - diversity..this is what makes football kits a thing of interest..different producers promote different designs..materials etc...if Nike & (to a lesser degree adidas) keep eating up football then we'll end up with the same old kits in different colour ways...I hope Umbro survive..and will help them by buying their kits so long as they make them..check out their South American clubs..great stuff!
Peace

The kits will not be generic at all.. in particular the home kit because who else has a kit with just blue and white halves that makes blackburns home kit unique enough.. the umbro kits have been praticaly the exact same for the last 3 seasons... Nike will be a good buisiness oppurtuiniy considering their last shirt sponsors in kappa umbro and lets not forget lonsedale
!!!

Would hate to see Forest part with Umbro. The shirt would look empty without the double diamond opposite the tricky tree!
