england 2010 umbro away kit

Aitor Throup, the conceptual designer behind the new England 2010 away kit, tells us about the concept behind the kit itself in this Umbro video.

"We wanted to make this shirt as comfortable as possible. It’s only about ’66 in a visual context, it’s really more about the new design language that we’re inventing. For instance, the collar on the ’66 shirt was a high crew neck, which was quite uncomfortable. If you look at this shirt, from the side, it’s actually higher at the back than the front, so it ventilates much more easily and is much more comfortable.

If you take the principles of the ’66 shirt and that era, there’s a real design restraint to it all. If you take that approach, but on a modern form, you can get to some really new and interesting places.”

Liga de Quito 2010 umbro home shirt

Liga Deportiva Universitaria de Quito— often referred to as Liga de Quito unveiled the new 2010 Home football shirt made by Umbro.

Historically, Liga's badge consisted of a large red block-letter "U". In the 1990s, the team adopted the current badge, a white "U" superimposed on an inverted triangle. The colours of the triangle were the deep red and blue of the flag of the city of Quito.

Throughout most of the decade and into the 2000s, the crest carried several blue stars above it representing Liga's league championships. After being removed from the jersey for a period of time, the blue stars were replaced by a single yellow star atop the badge following the Copa Libertadores win in 2008. Two more stars were added to commemorate the 2009 Recopa Sudamericana and Copa Sudamericana titles.

Huddersfield Town

Huddersfield Town wore a bright red and yellow strip, modelled above by Captain Peter Clarke, for the game against Southend United to raise money for the Keep It Up campaign.

It was the first game in the Club’s 98 year League history where they did not wear blue for a home game.

The Keep It Up campaign took off in March 2009 when Huddersfield Town announced it had given the traditional sponsor position on the front of their home shirts to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance charity for the next three seasons.

The aim is to help the Yorkshire Air Ambulance meet its £7,200 a day to keep the Air Ambulance flying and the Keep It Up campaign was born, with 50p of all the money raised going to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and 50p going to the Club's Academy which develops players from the local community and gives children a start in professional sport.
