Today adidas unveiled the Official Match Ball for the UEFA Champions League Final in Rome on May 27th:  the adidas “Finale Rome”. The Italian capital is hosting its second UEFA Champions League Final (following 1996). Europe’s top two football clubs in the 2008/2009 season will compete in the Final in Stadio Olimpico di Roma, Italy’s biggest sports arena.

The design of the adidas “Finale Rome” is based on the widely recognizable UEFA Champions League star ball. The colours of the new match ball are inspired by the traditional Roman colour burgundy with gold detailing around the stars. Mosaic figures representing key sporting and Roman values such as speed, teamwork, justice and power are featured in each star honouring the most important European club game.

Like the “EUROPASS”, the match ball for the UEFA EURO 2008™, the adidas “Finale Rome” features the innovative surface structure, PSC-Texture™. This surface structure allows players to control and direct the ball perfectly in all weather conditions. The PSC- Texture™ consists of a sophisticated and extremely fine structure on the ball's outer skin that guarantees optimum grip between ball and boot. Due to the usage of this material, the ball texture feels like goose bumps. In addition, like the “EUROPASS”, the adidas “Finale Rome” is constructed out of 14 panels using revolutionary Thermal Bonding Technology.

The adidas “Finale Rome” is currently available at retail worldwide.

Don\'t the 84\' Final between Roma and Liverpool was played also in Roma???
That acttualy would make this one the third final played in the Italian Capital

don\'t forget 77 when Liverpool also won it in Rome. This would make 2009 the fourth, although only the 2nd as the \'Champions League\' final.

yes but that was the european champion clubs cup(ECC CUP) not the champions league as it is now known. do ya history mate. YNWA. Im only 17 and even i know that. We also won their in 1977 under \'Sir\' Bob Paisley so even then it would make it the fourth. You really do not know much do you.

Even tough the competeition change image and format in 92, the escence it`s the same, so I don\'t see the difference between UCL and European Cup, if so, why the hell Real Madrid wears a 9 times winner badge? or Milan 7, or Liverpool 5 or Bayern and Ajax 4 times each???? and why the trophy remains the same that the one handed to Celtic after the 67 win????

Mayyyyyyyyyy beeee, bacause it\'s the same competition ...

This is just another nice ball design from Adidas. The idea of the UCL still the same with the stars but every final they add something unique in the ball. Anyway this ball may mean nothing IF Uefa takes an action to move the final to another city after what happened in Rome during Arsenal-Roma game! :s

Great ball! Possible improvements to represent Roman football could be sublimated images of stanley knives, scooters, crying children and facist salutes

scooters??
anyway, men your English drunk fans attitudes in Italian squares before the CL matches are not a great example of civility..
but I admit that here in Italy, particularly in Rome there are problems in the acceptance of English fans.
Also for the Final..at least one of the finalists will be English.. I think that there will be clashes between Italians and English fans.. we\'ll never be good friends.
expecially if the final will be Man Utd - L\'pool..

Anyway I\'m proud of Roman football..whatever you think of it

I think Adidas have missed a trick ...the ball needs to have fireworks , razor encrusted golf balls and images of stab victims on it to represent th ROMAN SCUMBAGS who blight the beautiful game.

Romans should never have won the rights to stage such a prestigious final! Why? Simply because the stadium is ****!!!! Whoever the two teams are in the final be sure to wear a stab proof vest and be prepared to be attacked by the Italian police! Mugs
