FIFA world player of the year Cristiano Ronaldo a.k.a. CR7 (because he plays with shirt No 7 for Manchester United), has reportedly registered the trademark 'CR9' at the National Institute of Industrial Property in Lisbon.
The digits "CR9" were copyrighted last month in his Portuguese homeland to be used on merchandise or as the name for a restaurant or bar.
He also has a sponsorship deal with a Portuguese bank giving them exclusive marketing rights if he goes to Spain.
Ronaldo already owns the rights to 'CR7' but rumours are that Raul said to be unwilling to give up the number 7 shirt at Madrid so plans appear to have been made for him to wear the number 9 jersey at the Spanish Club.
More rumours have been rife that the player, and the club, are sworn to silence over a secret agreement that would see him leave Old Trafford - a year after the original saga looked set to take him to Spain.

On a more serious note, watch United let the sorry little punk head off to Barcelona on a free, just to spit in the faces of Real. I\'d lol.
Gaylord.
fergie has created many world beaters ie Becks and guess wat when he left united he won two trophy and how many did united win four. just shows the fact that real madrid just want classy players to make high revenue from shirt sales and supporters around the word.(same with becks)
if real \"sucmbags\" madrid wanted roony why didnt they buy him when he was playing for lisbon lions, beacuse they didnt one to spend 12m on someone who is unknown and in thier eyes they didnt see talent but fergie saw talent and a fighter.
who knows united could pass the number 9 shirt to him but i doubt it because the number 7 shirt at united has been only given to world class player(ronaldo, best, beckham cantona list goes on) even better players then anyone who has put the number 9 shirt on for real \"sucm\" mardrid.
Good call. I\'m not english (I\'m american, but I\'ve learned a ton about the sport through traveling in europe and through my english neighbor) but one of my teachers at university is, and she says that about 90% of english united fans are just glory hunters either from the south coast (Cornwall) or from London. The rest of the fans that one can find at OT on matchday are either away fans or suits. Apparently there\'s no such thing as a United fan from Manchester. And that doesn\'t surprise me at all. United aren\'t a football club anymore, they\'re a business. The same can be said for Real Madrid.
