adidas CAF Africa Cup of Nations 2010 ghana- jabulani match ball

CAF and adidas unveiled the Official Match Ball for the Orange Africa Cup of Nations 2010 in Angola, which is available through the FSC Shop

16 teams will use the Jabulani Angola ball as they battle to become champions of Africa from January 10th to 31st in Angola.

Inspired by the yellow, red and black Angolan flag, the colourful and mystical design of the Jabulani Angola reflects adidas’ commitment to and passion for African football. Angolan pride in its culture and heritage is strongly represented through this vibrant ball which is sure to be used in some inspiring football moments this coming January.

Featuring the ground-breaking Grip’n’Grove profile, the Jabulani Angola will provide the best African players with a stable ball flight and perfect grip under all conditions.

Comprising of only 8 thermal bonded 3-D panels, which for the first time are spherically moulded, the Jabulani Angola ball is perfectly round and even more accurate than ever before.

“After the spectacular success of the first ever official ball for CAF, the “Wawa Aba” in Ghana 2008, we are proud to present to you the new official ball for African football for the next two years.”

“I have confident that the Jabulani Angola will be the perfect icon for the 2010 Orange Africa Cup of Nations.” says Amr Shaheen, Marekting Director of CAF.

While Zambian football legend, Kalusha Bwalya did not hide his admiration towards the new African ball “I envy the today’s generation of African football players because they have the opportunity to play with such a high tech ball that would help them scoring more goal, not to mention that it being produced by the best sports manufacturer in the world”

There was a story earlier this year on FSC that the DFB were planning to introduce one.

Bundesliga does not have such thing as official match ball, the ball used is the brand of the HOME team, for example, when Werder Bremen plays at home they play with a Nike Ball, when Borussia Dortmund plays at home they play with a Kappa Ball.

any particular reason why the africa cup of nations is held biennially while most other confederations organise their major tournaments quadrennially?

Interesting question. I think it's just a case of more competition meaning more scope for teams and players to progress, and the way African footballers have made a big impression on the Premiership, it seems to have worked.

CONCACAF also hosts the Gold Cup biennially. I think the idea is mostly based on sporting and financial reasons. The more chances for competitive games, the better everyone gets, and there are some pretty destitute countries in both confederations, so the additional money isn't bad either.

Its just how its traditionally been really, when it started in '58 most players were locally based and there was only one World cup place shared between Asia and Africa, so it was a way of maintaining regular competition for african nations. Also its held in January because in the summer months mosty african countries are under the rainy season (or in south africas case winter) meaning it would be impossible to play

torneos importantes. Viva el Futbol!!!!
