1.2 million CR9 shirts sold in Madrid

E-mail

CR9

A Bola reports that Real Madrid claim to have already covered the £80million cost of buying Cristiano Ronaldo by selling 1.2 million shirts bearing his name in the city of Madrid alone.

Zinedine Zidane, David Beckham, Luis Figo, and Brazil’s Ronaldo didn’t even reach those figures in their first year at Real Madrid. It is believed that the CR9 shirt is the fans’ favorite and that people from around the world flood the official Real Madrid store on a regular basis to pick up a Cristiano Ronaldo jersey.

The Madrid management estimate that they have sold over 1.2 million shirts solely in the Spanish capital. Multiplying that figure by the going rate for a shirt of €85 pushes earnings over €100m.

Manchester United are thought to have sold fewer than 1.2million Michael Owen shirts this season.

No wonder, the footballshirts are all too expensive. Manufactured in china for 2 €, they were sold in europe for 85 €. the real price for any football shirt should be $15

Just checked the online Real Madrid store and it gives a price of £61.94 for a Ronaldo branded shirt, xe.com converts that to €70.44. So, where on earth are they getting €85 from?

Exchange rates.
Values in Europe are still benefiting from the weakening pound since the Euro was introduced.

Price published at subside sports: 71.61 € (now on discount at 41.57€)

Every team receives about 15-20% or so, of the final sales price of each sold jersey, thats about 11 to 14 € . If Real Madrid received 20%, that`s about 14€ euros for each of those, the final figures elevates up to 16.8 € million.

That barley covers one year of his salary including taxes...

That 1.2 Million is in Madrid alone but you have not counted the world wide sale, which is at least 3 to 5x more than that.

dont think anybody will be fooled by their claims.

seeing as Owen was free though, its alot easier to see Manu making money on his merchandise.

United receive a set amount of cash every year in their deal with Nike (about £23m) regardless of how many shirts they sell.

As for Real claiming to have paid for Ronaldo with shirt sales, that is obviously rubbish:

Transfer fee: £80m = €92m

1.2m jerseys x €85 = €102m

Likely profit: 20% of 102m = €20.4m

Profit - Ronaldo's wages: €20.4m - €10.9m = €9.5m

Balance = €82.5m

Total Nonsence.
This is just a marketing ploy to try and justify all the money that Real have spent this year with no immediate resounding success.

that's 3,287 per day. If each transaction takes 4 minutes thats 219 hours per day. So Madrid store would have to have 28 full time sales stations selling CR9 shirts non stop every day for a single year. Guess some may be online sales but still not believeable

yes.. online too.

but im sure that there'd be more than one store u could buy his shirt from in a city of 6mil

basic shirt is generaly sell between 60/70 € but as they said in the article, it's the cr9 shirt with name and numbers, so the price rise to 85€ due to that. anyway if real madrid has already pay back ronaldo's tranfert this year, they have still 4 year to make it happend
