Confirmed by the club here:

Looks like they've gone the retro route. Not at all dis-similar to the umbro kit that was worn from 1987-1990

That is a lot better than what I was expecting, I was expecting a real horror of a kit, or a one with horrid lazer blue trim like the current one, but this is really nice. it looks Newcastle, and there is equal (more or less) amounts of white and Black on the shirt. I would be happy with this, hopefully the toon will get rid of the current abomination of a home kit and wear this ASAP, hopefully we will still be in the top flight. I would have prefered the Magpie and castle crest to the current crest (and worn over the heart) but on the whole, this looks really good for the next two seasons.

Now, they should bring out a yellow and green away for the awy kit for 2009-11 (we only need the ONE new change kit) and keep the silver one for when we play wolves and hull next season

totally agree with you MW.
But by the looks, we will be bringing out a new 3rd shirt and i'm thinking either all black or all white because if you
look at the kiton the online club shop, it says "home/ 3rd shorts", so they will use the home shorts for the 3rd kit.
more money to fork out.
and also im surprised to see that this kit is only for a season, its like they've just accepted we're getting
relegated (not my belief) and had a poor efforted simple adidas template kit this for our championship season
(not my belief too, i love it) ready for our premiership quality kit next season.

this reason this kit is only for one year is because apparently our sponsorship deal with northern rock ends at the end of next season and so we will have to get a kit with a new sponsor.

i really like this kit, took a couple of minutes for me to decide what i thought of it but i like it.
i did notice the 3rd kit shorts thing on the club shop website
although if our 3rd kit is anything to go by then we will only see it once or twice if lucky so meh

Well, attention sage, make the step up (just a little more cash) and become our main sponsor please! the logo wold look great on our shirts and they are a local company, plus the owner is a toon fan as well. But knowing Mike Ashley, it will be sports direct. his lthat logo is all over the St James park now, and thats going to be out new sponsor. Hopefully adidas will bring back the trefoil for the world cup.

On the crest, Ive just had a thought. Perhaps we can wear the current one on the home, and the castle and magpie one on the away? after all Independiente wear different crests for the home and away shirts. Just that I like both equally.
