Help with kit mock-up design 1 Year, 1 Month ago Karma: 0
Hi guys,

I'm the Club Secretary of Wanderers, the 1st ever FA Cup winners, and we are entering a league next season. As such, each of the players will be buying their own kit rather than the club buying it and washing it every week (i.e. me!)

I know what the kit will look like, but I'd like to get it mocked up so I can email the visuals round to the players and get their buy-in before going ahead and placing the order on their behalf.

Would you be interested in creating this?

Thanks,
Mark

I think one thing you could do is post up some rough ideas of what you're looking for, or if you have specific ideas then post them up.

Then people can come back to you straight away. I'd be interested in helping you out though.

Okay - well, I want to go with the Nike Classic III Park shirt in gold and black with the Park shorts and socks (both in black).

There will be an embroidered club badge (below) with a unique player number printed in pink below it (my number is 00739). On the back of the shirt will be the player name (Wilson) and squad number (7) in black. On the back of the collar I want the club motto printed in pink (Stet Fortuna Sodalitas) but it depends if there is space. If it can't go there, it should go below the badge with the unique number elsewhere (e.g. hemline, cuff, etc). Both should be in italic Arial font.

On the shorts will be no personalisation except for the squad number in white.

Here's the crest;

Ideally, our sponsor would be someone with a vintage feel, based in London and looking for a male audience. We haven't secured anyone yet but I'm going to approach a couple of potential sponsors;
Gentlemen's Tonic, who offer us a discount on their treatments,
Fentimans, who one of our players works for, or,
The Alexandra, who gave us half-price platters at our last match!

(We have modest expectations...)

If you can help compiling a couple of mock-ups that would be fantastic and, when we order the kits, I'd be happy to let you have your own one for cost price.

Thanks,
Mark

Just a quick go, I used the last sponsor because it was just the easiest without having to redraw as the other were fiddly and couldn't get any large versions. Don't have any short or socks drawn either but is this roughly what you were looking at?

That's great - thanks for your help with this.

Would it be possible for a (final) version with the Fentimans logo? I may be able to secure them as a sponsor having had a great chat with one of their PR team tonight.

Once again, thanks for your help - let me know your size and address (via email) and I can get one to you for, say. £20, if you are interested.

Cheers,
Mark

If you can get me a decent sized version of their logo then I can no problem, other wise it will just look like crap if i use what I can see on their website.

Here's just a slightly tweeked version of curswines, just trying to give you options. The Fentiman's logo looks a bit crap, but play along with it...

That's superb! I love it. Great work with getting the Fentimans logo - I actually convinced a barman to let me take a selection of photos of the logos and labels on the bottles in their pub on phone to try and get something usable.

The only minor errors are that the neck on the Nike kit is black, the DriFit logo is white and the swoosh on the shorts and socks is only available in white. Would you mind changing those details?

Aside from that, fantastic eye for design and fabric 'feel'. What are your thoughts on the kit?

It's my pleasure doing an assignment which might actually be made into a kit, really exciting too. I've altered the minor details you touched on, with the collar and logos. Thank you for the compliments, I've been doing kit design for a while now, being a graphics student, I'm looking to get into that kind of job. I like the kit, I always think that gold looks classy on kits, black with gold looks good too, and for it to be made by Nike is a plus, they've made some really nice kits in the past few years, including the Arsenal 2008-10.

Perfect! Thanks for making those amendments. I just hope that our potential sponsor is happy with the look.

I would have loved to have used a fair trade kit manufacturer that could replicate our black, old gold and cerise hoops but, unfortunately, there aren't any I could find. Nor could any company that could reproduce the hooped kit make it cost effectively or provide attractive looking warm-up kit, merchandise, etc, that Nike's resellers are able to do. Perhaps there's a business opportunity there for someone? Most modern kit suppliers are appallingly limited in their range. Umbro, for example. Nike are getting there but it would be nice to have clarity about what their minimum order size would need to be for a bespoke kit.

Thanks again for your work and, when we place the order, if you would like one of your own, with your name and number on it, for cost price, please let me know.

thanks a lot, it would have been great to have used such a eye catching colour scheme, but I think the kit looks good. I would like one ordered if thats possible, when are they being made? If possible could I have 'WINTERBURN' and number '9' on the back please?
