As you can see in the top two photos, the Leeds United crest appears on the left hand side of the shorts, while on the bottom two, the shorts have the badge on the right hand side. After doing some research and looking at more photos, I discovered that the badge was worn on the right - in line with the shirts badge - when Leeds United participated in Champions League fixtures.

So does anyone know why such a seemingly insignificant change was made? I had thought that it had something to do with rules regarding placement of player numbers on the shorts, but we can see in the picture that the yellow away kit, worn here against Valencia, the badge is on the short's left as in the home kit worn in league matches.
Can anyone shed on light on this mystery?
