Le Coq seemed to bring them out for Chelsea and Sunderland in the summer of 1981. Adidas for Nottm Forest, Ipswich, Norwich the same season.

Strange how the two seperate companies design seems to have coincided then. Does anyone know of any particular reason for it. And why they both went for pinstripes at the same time? Or if any club (UK or elsewhere) adopted pinstripes before???

I have a CELTIC shirt from 1979 that we wore til 1982 that is pure white with green pinstripes and a green V-neck colar. It is pure slamming by the way.

Leeds City (the club that was forced out of business before the formation of Leeds United) wore pinstripes

Thanks guys.

It seems the first modern appearance must have been on the Umbro Celtic away shirt then.

How about home shirt, post-war?

Hi

Did Ipswich Town not have a pinstripe shirt in the late 70s early 80s by Adidas ,I seem to remember Paul Mariner and Alan Brazil wearing pinstripes, I know Liverpool had one with Pinstrpes just on the front which was made by Umbro ,I remember getting the kit in a nice Box that Xmas, which I believe is worth a fortune to some collectors now.

thanks

Yes, the first was Leeds City in 1905.

The earliest post-war pinstripe kit I could find was a Heart's 60's kit (seventh row down, middle):

www.historicalkits.co.uk/Articles/iconic-change-kits.html

A small boom of pinstripe kits in the early eighties, add the 1982 Scotland away and the 1983-85 Republic of Ireland kits to those already mentioned.

There will be a whole host more in the eighties era.

Cheers!
