Manchester United Match Issued Shirt 2 Years ago Karma: 0
I bought a Man Utd match issued Champions League shirt from the 2004/2005 season. The name and number on the back is plastic, but I was under impressions that the European shirts from that year had a thin fabric name and number on the back. Am I wrong or did I get sold a bad shirt?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

no i believe sporting id player issue for that year was polyflex like materilal, where as inprevious seasons they were fabric lextra or similar but after 2004 they tended towards the vinyl like transfer... like the other clubs in Europe like Miland Munich etc.. so your shirt should be A OK

hope ithat helps

Hey mate,

send me a pic of the shirt and I'd be happy to take a look at it for a second opinion. Not all, especially the newer CL kits, have Lextra/Flock lettering. If you've got any United kits you'd be interested in selling, swapping or buying, shoot me an e-mail!

Cheers!

Erm nope, Lextra/senscillia has been dumped by the teams in European competition in favour of the PU type as it is cheaper and most teams with brand name suppliers Adidas and Nike for example can use their own styles for these games, as much for ease of accessability to styles as much as a bit of add campaigning. Man U however, like Barca and others (although Barca use theirs all year round have a custom template that'compliments the shirt, something that is done exclusively in PU, as it is cheaper to make can look a heck of a lot better in some cases. As I previously said, up until 2004 it has mainly been Lextra (in relation to Man U etc.) in CL Uefa cup matches but now it is pretty much exclusively PU material. I have checked up on this from a mate who like you has a Man U CL player issue shirt, and he got his direct from Old Trafford through a contact at the club, and his is PU plastic, so dont heed other posts, these guys probably havent seen player issue european tops anyway so it will probably just be speculation from them,

cheers
