Manchester Utd Munich Air Disaster Memorial kit

The special retro kit to be worn by United for Sunday's Manchester derby has been unveiled.

The special retro kit to be worn by United for Sunday's Manchester derby has been unveiled.

The strip, which has been specially designed without kit manufacturer or sponsorship logos, is based on the kit worn by the Busby Babes in the 1950s - in recognition of this week's 50th anniversary of the Munich air disaster. Manchester United held discussions with Nike about producing a one-off kit for the Manchester derby which takes place on 10th February 2008.

Following special dispensation from The FA Premier League, the design reflects the look of the kit that the 'Busby Babes' wore in the 1958 season and does not feature any sponsor logos or the club crest.

Also abandoned are modern squad numbers, with United's 16-man squad set to don numbers 1 through 16 on Sunday after gaining special dispensation from the Premier League. Manchester City  will wear a similarly modified version of their kit for this game. A black ribbon motif, bearing the words ‘Manchester Remembers,’ has also been incorporated.

Both teams will observe a minute's silence and every fan attending will receive a special memento.

I dont think Man City is having a kit that simple although they are having a memorial kit.

Man U\'s current kit is so plain anyway so they look almost identical. Both lame but at least this one is supposed to look outdated.

A good kit to for a important date. That would be a nice kit to sell for one day only, to remember the day.

RIP Busby Babes

Great design but it doesn\'t look right. Having watched the match, you\'ll see that the black socks weren\'t quite right and the red stripe from the shorts is missing. Man City should have wore a kit resembling 1958, that would have made it truly special (Manchester v Manchester, 1958 look etc.) but this look nice enough. I also loved the 2006/07 jersey which was commemorative to the Busby Babes. Too bad we lost this game
