Adidas extend Spain Kit Deal Until 2018

E-mail

spain adidasAdidas and the RFEF (Spanish Football Federation) are proud to announce the extension of their sponsorship agreement, extending the relationship until December 2018. The extension agreement comes as a result of the close relationship between both parties over the last 30 years and successes achieved together – most notably with the Spanish team winning the UEFA EURO 2008™ as well as the 2010 FIFA World Cup™.

"We are very proud and excited to announce the extension of our successful partnership with the Spanish Football Federation RFEF. adidas is the global leader in football and Spain is currently the strongest team in the world which makes this partnership a perfect fit," said Herbert Hainer, CEO of the adidas Group.

"We are looking forward to continuing our successful partnership and to supporting the Spanish Federation in their future successes.""We are really glad to have adidas as our official sponsor. This agreement allows us to count on the support of adidas, which is without doubt the leading football brand. We are going to continue our partnership with them to support the world of football in every aspect," said Ángel María Villar, President of the RFEF.

Both bodies will continue working together to promote football at all levels. adidas sponsors every team of the RFEF, including the U-17 team who are the current runner-up in Europe and third in the world, as well as the U-19 team who are the current runner-up in Europe.

"adidas is the global leader in football"
They were but I'm not sure this is absolute truth nowadays... It's not because you're the major shareholder of the FIFA that you're the number 1. Nike has signed partnerships with more and more countries and clubs while Puma is unquestionably the leader in Africa !

They probably took one look at the new France kits and signed on the spot.

Schweney you kidding me? The new Spain kits are terrible and as much as I don't like France, the new Nike kits were great and had some foresight to actually make a collection out of it like Umbro has been doing. The new Adidas kits are too tech and look super tight.

It's a matter of taste and I respect your opinion, but to me the France kits and even the recent Brazil kits are some of the worst international uniforms I've seen in the last 5 years. While I agree Spain's newest kit is somewhat ugly with all that blue, their world cup kits were quite nice. I used France as an example because to me they exemplify a kit that looked great as Adidas and is rubbish as another brand. Nike has made some great kits in the past, but I would not point to anything new that they've done on the international level as an example of that.

Adidas doesn't use those supertight shirts anymore.

I think the "must" for a national football team to have a famous sporting brand such as Adidas and Nike show so much how we are blinded more by the brand itself than the look of shirt these days. We should be interested in the shirt itself, its patterns, its fit, its collar, the motifs, not on the small logo printed on the left of the shirt...
If an unknown brand makes a beautiful Spain kit, more beautiful than an Adidas or a Nike, hats off, no problem for me....

If adidas cottoned on that there is a Market for originals kits with the trefoil, they might start making decent kits again.

Their current stuff is awful - even the training wear ranges: Chelsea and Liverpool's gear isn't just bad, it's horrific.

Indeed, indeed! Originals-series kits with the Trefoil are a long overdue idea. Adidas should actually restore the Originals brand - Trefoil included - in lieu of the main brand and logo.

I disagree. There is a massive museum of much greater offenders. Have you seen the current Barcelona away kit? Or the Everton kit which looks like a girl's blouse?

I completely agree! Why haven't Adidas cottoned on to the fact that there is a huge Market out there for the Adidas Originals designs. The old Adidas orginals France kits were great al a Mr Platini! As was the old Rep of Ireland ...to name but a few.

Come on Adidas go with the Trefoil logo again and start producing some kits with the old Three Stripes down the sleeve and the Trefoil on the chest!

"The extension agreement comes as a result of the close relationship between both parties over the last 30 years"

21 years ago they had Le Coq Sportif as technical sponsor

Isn't le coq sportif just another way of saying Sergio Busquets , Sergio Ramos or David Villa?

At the 1982 World Cup they had adidas, so they have had a close relationship with adidas over the last 30 (or 29 if we're being very specific) years, it didn't say that they have had a relationship for all of the last 30 years

Gentelmen, what is nike in football? They have no tradition and no influence over football history of all time!!! It's just another american rubbish brand. Let them stay by basketball, baseball or american football.

no one brought nike football up. your ignorance has no place in football. nike made some nice kits anyways they have to get their start at some point. btw adidas has designers from all over the world, including america.

Adidas was invented for football by the greatest country on earth Deutschland! Nike has absolutely no history whatsoever at all don't you start saying they do cause they don't. I would never support a team with kits by Nike, respective of the quality, design, etc.!

Puma? Of course. Umbro? Yes. Reebok, Joma, Hummel, Admiral, even? Sure. Many others, too. Adidas, clearly. But Nike? Nike have no business making football kits. Even if you take away their worst insults to the senses (notably any Netherlands kit and the current France kit), the very idea of a designer with absolutely no history in the sport irritates. They joined the party much too late, and like some badly dressed, fat, old, drunk bloke arriving at 5am round the party, they're not welcome. Their very name (a mispronounced name of a Greek god, no less) is overblown, pompous, and as tacky as a Las Vegas housewife in a pink lamé tutu. Further, I am beyond tired of seeing that daft swoosh - one best left on 70's canvas trainers. That swoosh and its legacy are as dated as a Scottie Pippen fizzy diet advert. In other words, way too nineties. Adidas admittedly make wrong steps sometimes - as witnessed on the current Spain home kit, for instance. And yet their legacy in the sport is unmatched - the three stripes are one of the design world's most iconic creations. Importantly, their kits fit fantastic. Most of all, Spain's Euro 2008, their current away kit, and - above all - the WC 2010 away kit (especially when matched with white shorts) are the most elegant kits ever seen on the playing surface of the most special sport ever. It's no surprise that the classiest and fantasy-filled side of all time - La Roja - wear adidas. ¡Olé!

Well said. Though myself I dislike their world cup kits for Spain. Germany had a brilliant kit. Spain isn't the most fantastic side ever though, that would be us or north Korea.
