Barcelona Announce Qatar Foundation Shirt Sponsor Deal

E-mail

barcelona qatar foundationFC Barcelona have announced that they have reached an sponsorship agreement with the Qatar Foundation worth €170 million over five years and will carry their name on the football first team's shirts.

Blaugrana vice-president Javier Faus explained that the club will receive €30m each season for years, starting on July 1, 2011 running until June 30, 2016, plus bonuses for trophies won that could total €5m. During the 2010/11 campaign the club will also receive a further €15m for the concept of commercial rights, bringing the total of the deal to €170m.

Qatar and Unicef

Qatar Foundation will join Unicef on the Barça's team's shirts as part of the agreement and over the next month the new look logo will be designed and presented. Nike will then be able to include the design on the front of the kit for next season.

Joint projects

The Barça first team will also play a friendly match, which will not necessarily take place in Qatar and the Qatar Foundation will also help in projects alongside Unicef and the Fundació Barça.

No commission

The deal with the Qatar Foundation was reached without any commission being paid or any involvement to intermediaries representing the club and was ratified unanimously by the board of directors at an extraordinary meeting on Thursday.

Faus explained that on a legal level the agreement does not need the ratification of the general assembly because since 2003 the possibility of FC Barcelona carrying publicity on their shirts has been agreed. Nevertheless, he did open the door for the matter to be discussed in future assemblies.

The Qatar Foundation is also the sole financial backers of Hamas. This has been proven several times over. Nice to see Barca getting in bed with known terrorists.

Lets just hope we see something nice.

The Qatar foundation are the first shirt sponsor - ie a company paying Barca for the right to adorn the strip.

Barcelona was Unicef's sponsor becuase the football club were paying the charity. It gave the charity free publicity by allowing their logo to be placed on Barcelona FC shirts'

Why are talking thus about Islam and Arabs and Qatar
Muslims are very kind
It is you who are talking so you have good and evil
I've got one word for you ...
Are you crazy؟؟

Muslims are very kind?

Yeah, explain that to my neighbor, who had the privilege of seeing his father die at the hands of "very kind" Muslims in the September 11th, 2001 attacks.

Muslims are very kind?

Yeah, I'm sure women all over the world would disagree, women have the privilege of being third-class beings in the Muslim world, being forced by backwards folk practicing a backwards religion that sees men be rewarded for treating women like shit; if Muslims were a kind bunch, the hijab would have been banned ages ago.

Muslims are very kind?

That's why they've tried to take over the world and impose religious law in countries such as France or England, and accuse the natives of racism when said natives try to maintain status quo?

Muslims are very kind?

No, they're a bunch of hypocrites, trying to kill the creators of South Park for daring to poke fun of "prophet" Mohammad, yet clearly they're too stupid to realize that South Park has made fun of everyone, and that nobody is above criticism?

Muslims are kind, indeed. The reason everyone hates them is because they're a bunch of pricks who think that money solves everything, and they practice such a backwards religion. A kid who plays at the 5-a-side court at my University here in California is the great-great grandson of a Saudi Prince, is a f*cking asshole; and doesn't understand why the rest of the world doesn't have billions of dollars like his family does. He even slapped a girl and called her a whore because she of middle eastern descent and had the guise to not wear a full body hijab.

Muslims are certainly kind bunch. We're all hating on Qatar because they didn't win the World Cup bid by merit or by excellence of their bid, they won by bribing FIFA flat out, and tried to hide it.

Leave the rest of the World alone and keep practicing your stupid religion.

No, he's just echoing what the rest of the western world think. If the Muslim world tried to adopt the lifestyles of the western world and shun the backwardness of Islam, and didn't try to mandate that the entire world practice strict Shiri'a law, we'd accept them. You must not forget that Qatar (the nation in question here) refused to hand over known Al-Qeda members to US and UK forces for fear of not wanting to look bad to the rest of the middle east. They also didn't allow a female tennis player to take part in their year-end championships because she was from Isreal, no matter that she was top 5 in the world then.

Unfortunately, that isn't the case.

And for the record, you're a faggot.

Awful stuff about Barcelona, too, shame they succumbed to the power of greed as well, looks as if this year's shirt is the last one I get until they go back to the tradition they've upheld for over 100 years and ditch the practice of selling their souls to the devil (money). A real shame.

And for those of you who think I'm being dumb, go have a look for yourself at what this Qatari Foundation does. In my opinion, a foundation with a few billion to spare shouldn't be wasting their money on sponsoring football clubs, they should be out putting that money to good use - stopping poverty and hunger and all that. I'm sure there's a billion or so people who could use a dollar or two, and it would have a massive impact on their lives.

Please don't lump me in with your "rest of the western world."

The "rest of the Western World" includes many million Muslims, and several dozen Muslims were killed in the 9/11 attacks.

You, and Nick RBNY are censoreds.

I might call New York my hometown, but I'm not American. Sorry. I can't understand what you're trying to say. I have lived extensively in England, Mexico, China, Brazil and Italy. I have traveled the world over and I HAVE seen what happens when you mix politics and religion, and it is truly an awful thing. I can guarantee you I've seen more of the world than you have. Guarantee. My opinion is formulated by tons of research.

I am simply echoing what the majority of the world views about the current rise of Islam. In our opinion, a religion whose main text that makes a martyr out of anyone who kills a non-Muslim in the name of Islam is backwards indeed. I am no racist.

Why do you people keep trying to justify your intolerance by claiming to speak for "the rest of the Western World," or "the majority of the world?" Stop doing that! You don't speak for me, you speak for the backward-thinking minority.

And don't try to deny that you are intolerant - I quote:
"Keep practising your stupid religion."

I am a firm atheist, but what you say about Islam is the height of intolerance.

Your "tons of reasearch" obviously doesn't extend to actually reading the Qu'ran or trying to UNDERSTAND or contextualize a 1400 year-old text.

Islam rose from a small tribe to having one and a half billion Muslims in the world today - do you really think it could have done that if it taught to kill all non-believers?

Actually, I've read the Qu'ran, I've read the Bible, and the Old Testament (the Torah). Perhaps you should give it a read too, you might understand where I'm coming from. But nice try.

For the record, I'm an atheist too, the only difference between you and I is that I'm pursuing a doctorate in religious studies, and unless you've already gotten said doctorate, you've got ZERO bounds to talk. Zero. I think I've got a damned good idea of what Islam is and

Cool story bro, but I doubt you've even read a page of the Qu'ran, they make it clear as day as to what any proud Muslim should do about dealing with non-believers. Practice what you preach, and go find me a passage from the Qu'ran that says that believers (and genders) of all faiths are viewed on equal terms through the eyes of a practicing member of the Islamic faith. The Qu'ran makes Jews out to be a pack of dogs who have no place among human beings, and that they all deserve to die and burn in hell; and anyone who helps send them on their way is a saint.

I don't have a doctorate but I have taught religious studies for seven years, which I think gives me certain "bounds to talk," and also requires that I read "even a page of the Qu'ran."

I think what's happened here is that like many people in the West, you are confusing the views of fundamentalist Muslims with the message of the Qu'ran, written in very different times to our own.

Moderate Muslims are capable of differentiating, the fundamentalists are not. And neither are those people who are so blinkered in their opinions that they will (in one sweeping, stultifyingly stupid generalisation) write-off one fifth of the world's population as being intolerant.

I tire of speaking to a moron.

Shalom and good luck with your glittering career in Religious Studies, Doctor.

Qatar foundation is a non-profit organization that does community development, scientific research, etc.

Athletic Bilbao, who had NO sponsorship on their shirts even after Barca began with UNICEF, sold their shirts to Petronor. Petronor is a Basque OIL company.

Yet Barcelona is the one taking oil money?!
