Celtic and Rangers to sign Tennent’s sponsor deal

E-mail

old firm TennentAccording to the Daily record, The Old Firm are set to announce new shirt sponsors - with Tennent's favourites to agree the new sponsorship deal.

Rival lager brand Tennent’s is seemingly the favourite to secure a new sponsorship deal with Celtic and Rangers when its current sponsorship of the Scottish national team expires in June.

Carling signed an £18million deal with Rangers and Celtic in 2003. Both clubs have had joint sponsorship deals since the early 1980s when glazing firm CR Smith became the first company to back them both.

The deal could be worth up to £1.5 million a year for the rival teams.

Tennent's is already in negotiations with the Scottish Football Association over the possibility of extending its £1 million shirt sponsorship agreement with Scotland's national side, which has been in place since 2006.

Nothing like having a gigantic letter "T" on your kit.

I heard that Emirates were interested in taking them both, apparently both Old Firm clubs want to lose an alcohol company sponsoring them because they can't show the sponsors in some Europien countries including France.

I can`t imagine that they will use a red "T" on a Celtic shirt, hopefully they will print the whole name in black...

Forget the new sponsor, it's about time both these 'Scottish' Tennent's were evicted from the SPL.

They have not had joint sponsorship since the 1980s, CR Smith did separate deals with the clubs, the joint sponsorship only began in 2000 or so with NTL

The CR Smith deal was a joint deal, as was the NTL sponsorship and the current Carling sponsorship. Get your facts right mate.

Key words: "According to the Daily Record".

Anything coming from the pages of the Daily Rumour doesn't count for very much.

For all the years Rangers had McEwans Lager Celtic had different sponsors (People's Ford, Umbro to name but 2) so it's not been continuous. And even with McEwans I remember we played in France with Center Parcs as a sponsor (who were owned at the time by S&N breweries) cos you couldn't have beer logos. Both clubs have their own identities and I have to admit I'd like them to have seperate sponsors... but companies don't want to alienate half their market it seems. The big red T would look bad though, on either shirt.

I wouldn't mind it if the Potato censoreders had that large "T" on their shirts, it would fit them quite well, especially that censored McGeady, he's an absolute twat and that T would suit him perfectly.

Up the Gers! Down with the scum!

Celtic asked for the Red on the Carling Logo to be changed to green as it was causing some fuss between their fans. Carling did so accordingly.

I imagine IF and thats a big IF (this is a Daily Record rumour) the Old Firm go with Tennents then I would imagine Celtics would be a black T and Rangers would be a white T, representing the good and the bad, the darkside and the brightside etc.

Personally I would like to see Tayto's Crisps sponsor Celtic and maybe a joint sponsorship for Rangers with phone giant Orange and Walkers crisps.

Celtic should court GUINNESS....that would fit perfectly. Rangers could then court AIG since it would go well with their debt.
