Chelsea Renew Samsung Shirt Sponsor Deal

Chelsea have renewed their shirt sponsorship with Samsung until the end of the 2014/15 season.

The agreement is said to be worth around 18 million pounds per season to the European champions.

The contract started with Samsung paying 11 million pounds per season as the company replaced Emirates airline on the front of Chelsea’s blue jerseys. That agreement was extended at 15 million pounds five years later, and Samsung had until June 1 to take up its option to renew for a further three seasons.

A Chelsea spokesman said: "Samsung have exercised their right to extend their deal which will see them remain as a premium partner of the club until the end of May 2015."

In August, Manchester United announced a deal with General Motors which will see its Chevrolet brand become the club's shirt sponsor in 2014 in what is said to be worth some £50million a season.

Liverpool’s sponsorship agreement with Standard Chartered Plc is worth 80 million pounds over four years. Premier League champion Manchester City last year announced a 10-year partnership with Etihad that gave the Abu Dhabi-based airline stadium naming rights and jersey sponsorship for $500 million.

As European Champions I would have thought that the shirt sponsorship was worth more than £18m a season, especially as Utd and City get £50m a season and Liverpool £20.

I appreciate Utd and Liverpool have larger fan bases, but Liverpool are not in the Champions League. Whilst City are sponsored by their owners. But £32m million a year difference a season is a player like Eden Hazard.

Samsung can't afford to give any more than that because they got sued by Apple.
