Liverpool To Announce Warrior Sports Kit Deal
Liverpool have wrapped up a £25m-a-year kit deal with Boston-based company Warrior Sports, according to reports in Friday's papers.
Warrior, a subsidiary of New Balance, will take over from adidas ahead of the 2012-13 season and it is expected to be a long-term relationship which puts Nike’s deal with Manchester United - worth £23.5m - into the shade.
The news comes as a huge blow to their current kit manufacturers as Liverpool's shirt is the fourth-highest selling replica in the world.
Around 900,000 shirts are sold annually, a number only beaten by North West rivals United, plus Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Liverpool owner John W Henry had said that the club would only spend money that it generates and with Champions League football at least another season away, the promise of funds will boost the club's muscle in the transfer market.
Warrior are a big player in the United States where they have traditionally been associated with ice hockey and lacrosse.
The company, set up by Dave Morrow - who also invented the first ever titanium lacrosse stick - was bought out by New Balance in 2004.
The brand was transformed from a niche-market player to a huge brand big enough to sign a multi-year deal with the baseball giants Red Sox.
As part of the company's expansion, they have increased the number of player sponsorships and worldwide sales totalling £1billion has facilitated the move into football.

They're paying 25 Million, higher than Nike pays the Manc. So obviously if Adidas wasn't willing to match it, it's best to go with a brand that will.

Well it's not that easy my friend. Its all about distribution. Where the likes of adidas and Nike have worldwide distribution and the LFC brand is shown around the world these new and small brands do not have any distribution at all and all of a sudden you can't buy the replicas in important markets like Japan, China etc. So then the "fans" chose to support another team like ManU, Chelsea etc that they can buy replicas and fan apparel from in their own markets. All of a sudden you sell less merchandise and then the money you gained from that big deal is not so big or worst case inferior to what the adidas deal would pay.

About 75% (at LEAST) of those United or Chelsea shirts one can buy in important markets such as China are fake, so even though the club still retains visibility in said market (and TV ratings go up as a result), the club doesn't even get a penny from the shirts due to the fact that it's not licensed by the club, nor does the maker of the fake shirt have any financial obligation to give the club anything.
Carousels and swings go both ways, mate. The shirt will still be available at major sporting goods stores or football-specific stores. Just because the shirt won't be found in an official Nike or adidas shop doesn't mean it's going to be impossible to find. Keep in mind, real fans can also order things off the internet these days, right from the club itself or from one of the thousands of online stores that sell these kind of things.

Warrior is actually owned by New Balance, which is a pretty large manufacturer pretty well known in track and field areas. Warrior was a lacrosse brand owned by NB (as article states.) NB has deep pockets. Given that NB is a Boston based corporation, it makes sense given that the Red Sock and John W Henry are in Boston as well. I think given that there will no longer be any more of those annoying 3 stripes on the shirt sleeves, that the products may actually look more clean.

That's their highest-end lacrosse gloves, they make really great quality stuff. Believe me, I use their lacrosse equipment. Many NHL players use their hockey gloves and sticks. The company is really growing and has massive potential.

Sunderland actually did have Nike making their kits in the mid 80s (1983-86? - they wore a Nike kit in the 1985 Milk Cup Final), the home kit was red/white stripes on the body of the shirt with white shoulders and sleeves. Nike's UK headquarters were in Sunderland back in the 80s, probably the reason why they wore NIke then. I think Cambridge United wore Nike as well during that time.
And you crack me up! Here's their 1983 Home kit, pay attention to the upper right hand part of the shirt, you might find a Swoosh logo, implying that NIKE made the shirt.

Trust me, I've been around Lacrosse A LOT longer than you have (another FACT). I know what Warrior is, and what it isn't. BRINE is just soccer and lacrosse make, and they used to make football boots, I have a pair that I used in High School and were a great pair of boots, I had a 22 goal season wearing them.

The first of which is that I have an interest in football shirts in general. Secondly, I'm allowed to make a comment, if the administrators didn't like what I have to say they'd have banned my IP address. They haven't. Thirdly, I'm allowed to make a remark about how nice it is to see another poster here from the same area as me, especially since I live in a country where football isn't extremely popular, and deductive reasoning would bring about the conclusion that posters from that country, especially from a very specific area, would be quite rare. Thirdly, this has to do with a brand from my country of residence doing business with a group of people who are from my country of residence. It matters to people outside of Liverpool, too.

CCM still make superior products, but when they lost the jersey deal with the NHL it really hit them hard. The quality of their products is the absolute highest of any brand in the world from the equipment to the clothing.
Nike Bauer are doing alright. A lot of hockey players use their sticks and skates, but they receive a lot of complaints due to quality. When I was working at a sports store we often had returns due to faulty products. When they worked they're on, but it can be hit or miss. When Nike purchase Bauer it all went downhill from a hockey standpoint.
When Warrior started off no one wanted to use their stuff. In fact, their earliest hockey sticks were awful because they broke easily. Hockey players were very skeptical until some of the big names started using their products. It is a shame that big money sponsorship deals had to force Warrior into the sport like Reebok has done at first, but once they got in other players started taking note of the high praise their products were receiving a few years in. The gloves and skates are incredible and their designs are very sleek and admirable.
Within a few years the Warrior brand has moved itself into the top four and as of right now I'd say have moved beyond Nike Bauer for quality and are close to Reebok for the same reasons. These days most players only use Reebok because the brand pays them to wear their stuff. Warrior has dropped away from sponsoring anymore big names and are allowing the quality to speak for itself through word of mouth. That's how Warrior has built their current reputation.
No, they should give away some of their chest or core protectors that they use for hockey/lacrosse with every purchase of a Liverpool shirt. It'd be better to get stabbed wearing one, and you know if you're out in Liverpool you're gonna get stabbed regardless, so it makes perfect sense!

Signing a deal with any sponsor, even one that has not been a huge force in football for twenty five million is wonderful for the club that needs as much money as possible. To both, get out of its debt and to become competitive.
Sure, kits are nice to look at and admire; but if you're a true supporter you would realize that this is a deal not to pass up and you should kindly shut the f*ck up if you think that somehow a brand name is going to make the team better.
You are right though, LFC need to explore all revenue streams to stay competitive especially since our stadium isn't as large as our competitors. Combined with Standard Chartered's sponsorship deal, we'll have £45m per season coming in. That's enough to buy a world-class player PER season. It also takes the pressure off not playing in the UCL for at least one season, which is likely.
Investing what we earn on players is in my opinion a very healthy ideology, and it allows FSG to devote their capital toward solving the stadium dilemma.
I wouldn't knock it until they show off the new kit next year. Could turn out to be the smartest kit ever made. Probably not, but you never know.

In the US Adidas does the MLS and NBA gear, Reebok does the NFL and NHL so not that big but the money Liverpool is getting from this deal is good for the club, maybe not for the fans fashion though.

Thirdly, Warrior is anything but a shit make, Lacrosse is one the most expensive sports to play in the USA (the cheapest gloves usually retail for over 100 USD, let alone shoes, helmets, sticks, etc...) and Warrior is THE most expensive and high-end brand in the sport. The same goes for Ice Hockey. I had a friend of mine in high school who had a pair of gloves made by Warrior, which ran him over 225 USD. The limited edition of those, which were probably the nicest piece of sporting equipment I've ever held in my hands, retailed for well over 300 USD, IIRC. My brother's team is sponsored by Warrior, and some of their stuff is incredible. You don't play Lacrosse so you really wouldn't know, though. Simply put, Warrior is the most expensive brands in one of the most expensive sports around. Shit? Hardly!

Fans dont want their teams kit being made by some stupid american sports company. Why cant they just stick to their own sports like ice hockey and american football and leave football kits for people who actually know what football is.
I was actually starting to like the new owners aswell.
A stupid American sports company like say... Nike? or Umbro? (Liverpool's first logo'd kit manufacturer, now part of nike) or how about a stupid German company like Adidas or Puma?
I'd say signing the biggest kit sponsorship deal in the history of the sport is a way to show the fans that John Henry is completely serious about making Liverpool a top team again. Because if I was in his position, I'd definitely tell Warrior to censored off and continue making less money than what was offered to me. Yeah, the best way to show the fans that you care about your 300 million dollar investment is to turn down the opportunity for said investment to gain more money through sponsorships. Obviously he wants Liverpool to become the best team they can be off the pitch and on it. But then again, that's why he's running the club and you aren't.
Secondly, ice hockey isn't American. It's Canadian. Thirdly, Nike is American, and Umbro is owned by Americans. Nice try though.
Opinions aside as a American I'm proud to see a American brand representing a big club like Liverpool but to be honest I've only seen the warrior brand on a few number of small college football teams. The fact it's owned by NB is news to me. But Liverpool fans you should be glad you finally have a owner that takes the initiative to control the club by managing the financial part. Financial stability = profit. Profit= $ to spend on players and that equals cups. And sadly football is all about the $$. I know what that gutted feeling is like. My metrostars sold out to a energy drink. But atleast it's not li Ming or wutever and when you start winning cups you'll be thanking John Henry
And plus you can be assured that warrior will do it's best to design a kit worthy of liverpools status. This is huge PR and brand recognition for warrior if they disappoint the brand will sink. If they want to pierce the soccer market they are presented with a huge opportunity with Liverpool. So that will atleast give you reason to hope
