Umbro and Manchester City Football Club today announce a unique ten-year brand partnership..

July 18th will mark the on-sale date of Manchester City FC’s home kit for the 2009/10 season. Inspired by the club’s heritage, the new kit will benefit from Umbro’s football tailoring process, delivering performance and style on and off the pitch.

The home kit combines design elements from the past with new technology, refined detailing and a tailored aesthetic. Each seam on the crew-neck shirt has been carefully considered and selected for a specific function and the crest has been extensively re-mastered to bring a new level of detail to the club’s identity.

The away kit is a nod to Manchester’s symbol of industry and coat of arms – the Apis Millifera – more commonly known as ‘the bee’.  The shirt is black with yellow and gold inserts on the shoulders used to define and accentuate the upper torso.

The third kit draws its inspiration on a classic kit of the past, whilst embracing craft and attention to detail to create a very modern twist. The shirt has a black and red sash across a white base with the team sponsor located under the crest to ensure that the visual identity of the sash is not compromised.  Umbro worked closely with MCFC and Etihad to ensure the design authenticity stays true.

Every part of the design process has been considered to create three new kits that flawlessly marry performance and style.

Martin Prothero, Umbro’s Senior Vice President of Football said, “This is an exciting opportunity for both Umbro and Manchester City FC to build on their collective heritage and create truly iconic modern football brands. MCFC were the first beneficiaries of our tailoring heritage in 1934, the same year they won The FA Cup wearing Umbro kits. MCFC will be the first club side to benefit from our tailoring process for the 2009/10 season which means the best sportswear products for players and fans alike.”

Garry Cook, Chief Executive Officer of Manchester City commented, “We are thrilled to announce this key partnership.  We are building a successful and sustainable football club for the future and our partners are integral to that.  Umbro share our commitment to innovation, the city of Manchester and creating world-class experiences for its customers and  our fans.”  .”

David Pullan, Brand and Marketing Officer from Manchester City said, “This partnership will help both MCFC and Umbro to cement their places at the very heart of the city of Manchester and to continue to grow in prominence across the globe. The Club is delighted to work with such a progressive and innovative brand and looks forward to further developing our partnership over the coming decade.”

Umbro also announced today that working in partnership with Manchester City FC and other local organisations, the company is committed to investing over £100,000 in Manchester culture over the next three years to support and inspire creativity across the city.

The Manchester City FC home kit will be on general sale from July 18th and available in the FSC Shop.

The away kit will be available from August, while the third strip will be available from October.

Awesome shirts, I don\'t even support City, but the shirts are great AND made in England.

Boy does this country need the jobs. People should buy British goods to help boost the economy.

Ugh. I had a feeling City was going to do this. Using Umbro\'s new \"tailored shirts\". It\'s a bunch of rubbish. What\'s so great about the new \"tailored fit\" design. I saw the new England kit online and wanted this NEW DESIGN. Than I saw it in person and it\'s just £40 for a t-shirt. It\'s plain and boring. Other Umbro teams have the pleasure of a normal shirt not this \"fancy tailored shirt\" nonsense. I\'m a die hard blue but with all the money City have you mean to tell me they couldn\'t get a better kit idea than a crew neck t-shirt with the club crest on it?!?
It\'s subpar, but being the passionate supporter I am. I\'ll end up getting at least the away shirt. What would I do though. Put it in the t-shirt drawer orhang it up in the closet with the past seasons shirts?

Minimum effort from the design team then.

Look good though. A billion times better than the censored Sportif efforts they\'ve had in recent years.

I believe that Le Coq actually wasn\'t that bad. I thought they were something different. And they looked great. Especially the first year of Le Coq.

YES I DO!

But in all fairness, they aren\'t bad. Better than the blandness seen from Nike, Umbro, Adidas. All I\'m saying is, Le Coq were different and produced some quality kits for City.

the England shirt is not \'made in England\' mate and hasn\'t been for years.

It\'s says \'Tailored in England\'.

Smoke an mirrors to make you pay 50 quid for a white t-shirt...

I will only buy British if the quality of design and manufacture are as good if not better than imports.

It is a romantic view that we should just buy British for the sake of it.

This is horrible. I have bought nearly every home kit each season, not because I am a blind consumer, but because I have been a supporter since I was 3 and was able to understand, on some level, what football was and what City meant. I am also an economist. I have a collection... and this is one of the most pathetic attempts at shirt creation and commercialism I have ever seen. The cost of design, setup, and production for this series of shirts (especiually the primary seller home shirt) is incredibly low. The profit margin will be very high, especially with the favourable exchange rate. This was about outfitter and sponsorship money. It pains me to see City going this way. I will always be a Blue... but not always a happy one. I will not be contributing to this blatant adultery of football legacy.

It\'s a classic plain blue 60\'s style crew neck City shirt, as worn by Bell, Lee, Summerbee, Young, Oakes, Pardoe! It\'s what the vast majority of City fans have been asking for in a home shirt for as long as I

So what are their motives?

On an unrelated note, City should bring back their seventies badge.

So much better.

these are rubbish! maybe with a better picture and higher fidelity they won\'t look quite so rubbish, but they suck. the last two season\'s kit have been good especially the 07/08 3rd and excluding the 08/09 3rd. I\'m pretty sure we lost every game in which the agent orange was worn.

I really hope that the home strip has Maroon topped sky blue socks with two white stripes like the class of 68.
Would have preferred a red/black away strip and hope that the third strip is complete with sleeve numbers like the original.

I am getting happier by the day!

I don\'t know what some people are moaning about - looks to me like City will have some of the classiest kits in the league next season. If only the likes of Everton and Blackburn had been so lucky!

As a (Mancunian) United fan, I\'ve rarely had any reason to be envious of City, but if the leaked photos of both our kits are right, I will do come August!

I don\'t know what some fans are moaning about? This season\'s Le Coq have been some of the worst ever City shirts, the away and third in particular are abominations, whilst all Le Coq strips have been of the poorest quality.

These Umbro strips will be the best quality going around, whilst I for one am happy to see the long-awaited return to a retro look, instead some immediately dated asymmetrical crap!

I support United, so , because of the hatred between city and united,I am supposed to be telling something like \"S*** Kit for S*** Club\".

But to be honest, City had had a good season. They will be even stronger the next season. Even if we assume they will not challange the title, the definitely are going to fight for a place in the first 4.

And this shirt .. yes.. it is not something outstanding, something ridiculously good-looking, but it is a fine shirt, or maybe one of the best in a few years time. Plain and elegant.

Of course some of us won\'t agree with this, but that\'s always the way it is. There is no kit which satisfies everyone.

 this is crap! if other teams who have umbro deals like west ham, blackburn and other teams don\'t get this special \'tailored in england shirt\' this just favouring the big teams. stpid capitalist *******s at umbro think the other teams aren\'t good enough. West Ham finished higher than man city this season!

Read the article all will become clear, Umbro started in Manchester and City were their first clients in 1934. Umbro also made City\'s kits for over 60 years until a switch to Kappa in the 90\'s. Part of the reason must be down to City CEO Garry Cook who used to work for Nike (which owns Umbro) he would have brokered the deal hence City are the first club side to get the tailoring treatment. City are going to be big business in the next few years, It\'s our turn to be hated like Utd.... The futures blue

last years home kit was bad, bad, bad. 1 the thomas cook logo peeled off twice on mine. 2 the name tag on collar as come off on EVERY shirt ive seen, 3 the shape, the cut of the collar, the over-the-top piping on the shorts, S**T S**T S**T!!!!

Christian - i see where you\'re coming from. hopefully in time ALL Umbro kits will have the tailoring feature. but it\'s hardly surprising that City are the first club side to be the beneficiaries of this, given that even before the takeover, City were still a bigger club than West Ham, Sunderland and Blackburn. no doubts about that.

it\'s a similar arrangement to when Umbro supplie United, as they received unique designs to all the other clubs.

All the stuff I\'ve read on the City blogs from people that have seen and touched the kit say its fantastic - even Noel from Oasis and whatever you think of him he\'s always a straight talker. If it\'s the same fabric as the England kit it\'ll be cool - really nice feel to it and great fit... but like all these things, until I can see it for real I\'ll hold off on a final opinion.

The reason why we have the tailored kit instead of your lot, blackburn and Sunderland is because of our history with Umbro - our first kit manufacturer in 1934 and that Umbro were/are based in Cheadle, Gtr. Manchester.

That\'s why we were favoured.
