Philadelphia Union Bimbo sponsor

Philadelphia Union and Bimbo Bakeries USA today announced a four-year partnership agreement that will put one of the world’s largest baking companies on the front of the Union team jersey and all team apparel.

Philadelphia Union are the fifth professional soccer team to don the Bimbo logo, as Grupo Bimbo, the company’s Mexican parent is also the jersey sponsor for three of Mexico’s Primera Division teams, America, Chivas de Guadalajara and Monterrey, as well as Costa Rican professional team Deportiva Saprissa.

“Today’s announcement is yet another defining moment in both Philadelphia Union’s and Major League Soccer’s history,” said Philadelphia Union CEO & Operating Partner Nick Sakiewicz. “The Union brand is about authenticity and you don’t get more authentic than Bimbo. We’re honored to partner with a major international company with a rich soccer tradition and longstanding commitment to world class products and outstanding customer service.

“Finding the right partner to place on the Union jersey took some time but we wanted to make sure we partnered with an authentic company that shares our core values and commitment to the sport, fans and customers. We are proud to say that we have found that partner in Bimbo.”

“Bimbo Bakeries USA is thrilled to become a part of the Philadelphia Union and Major League Soccer families,” said Vince Melchiorre, Senior Vice President of Bimbo Bakeries USA. “Grupo Bimbo has long been a supporter of the sport of soccer worldwide and putting our name on the jersey of Philadelphia’s hometown soccer team is a perfect fit as we continue to build our Bimbo brand with U.S. consumers.”

Additionally, the sponsorship gives Bimbo the right to use MLS League and Club marks along with logos and marketing assets at League and select Club events such as the MLS All-Star Game and MLS Cup, Major League Soccer's championship game. Bimbo will run a nationwide “Soccer Mom of the Year” promotion, with the winner earning a trip to MLS Cup 2011.

“Major League Soccer is proud to welcome Bimbo to the North American soccer family,” said Kathy Carter, President of Soccer United Marketing, MLS’ marketing arm. “Bimbo has made a long-term commitment to our sport, both at the Club and the League level. This is a company that is well-respected internationally and we look forward to working together as we both continue to grow our business.”

Bimbo Bakeries has also pledged to support youth soccer in the Delaware Valley, including organizations such as the Eastern Pennsylvania Youth Soccer Association and the Delaware Youth Soccer Association.

Bimbo is the reason why I haven't bought a Club America shirt in a decade. I feel bad for all the Union fans that will have to put up with people asking them why they have a huge BIMBO on their shirts and laugh at them.

Yeah, it is the USA after all, you know, the same USA in which all other sports besides soccer have a rule explicitly forbidding corporate sponsorships of any kind on the uniforms. No, thank you rest of the world, YOU brought this kit ruining commercialization to US.

Yeah, no sponsorships on the Jerseys but they're everywhere else, a shiteload of the stadiums are named after some sort of business or organization, whereas about a handful of stadiums in Europe are named after companies and such
so don't thank us for bringing commercialisation (correct spelling) to you lot but thank us for the greatest sport in the world.
btw it's colour not color

Logo looks Ok on home kit but horrible on away kit. Color scheme for away kit was already terrible now it's even worse with a big white logo on it. Please get some new away kits.

Supprised Bimbo's logo isn't a pitcure of Paris Hilton's face.

Could possibly be on the worst sponsers for a shirt in history. Complete clash of colour, look's like 'Bimbo' have just been running round town and sticking their label to things, couple of them happens to be these shirts.

this is worse than when Chevy released the Nova car in Mexico. "No Va" in Spanish is "No Go" ... When are companies going to learn to check the language before trying to market their product in a different county.

I really hope the Union get a bunch of money from this deal, because they won't sell any shirts to English speakers.

I understand the Union’s move is purely financial. This sponsor is on 4 other jerseys but in other cultures (ie Mexico was brought up) women are not refereed to as "Bimbos" there, which is very negative. There would be no problem with a man wearing a Union jersey in the USA, on the other hand, a little girl, teenager or woman wearing the same jersey means a different thing

The Union should not have gotten involved with the Son's of Ben in regards to their cheering. It was the Union who brought that to the attention of the media. Union management's point was that the stadium was for families. You now have contradicted your "family" point by using "bimbo" as our sponsor.

The shirt were already horrible with that cat-sick dijon mustard colour.

Then they displayed them on cheap metal racks that are used for displays in a $1 store with a fake brick background! The people behind marketing for Union need to be fired asap.

Yes, Bimbo, very reflective of the league, Philadelphia and the rest of the clubs.

Hear me now and believe me later, I would not be caught dead wearing ANY shirt with Bimbo as the sponsr.

Hey, all you Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man. Utd. fans - how would you like Bimbo to sponsor your teams on their shirts?
