Puma extend Tottenham Hotspur Kit Deal

E-mail

Spurs / PumaPuma has signed a one-year extension to its kit deal with Tottenham Hotspur.

The north London club’s contract, which will now run until the 2011/2012 season, will see Puma continue to supply the club with their technical and replica kit and training wear.

Roger Harrison, Puma UK marketing director commented: ‘Our partnership has proven to be very successful in the past. Tottenham Hotspur continues to grow and they continue to be a great fit for the Puma brand. This agreement underlines our strong commitment to expand our position in the global football market.’

In addition to sponsoring Tottenham Hotspur, Puma also has kit sponsorships with Newcastle United, Cardiff City, Burnley, Coventry City, Dundee, Hibernian, Motherwell, Preston Northend and Stirling Albion.

Tottenham has enjoyed a lucrative year in terms of sponsorship deals, recently announcing multi-million pound shirt sponsorship contracts with Autonomy Group and Investec for league and cup games respectively.

Well, seing how they were the only club in Europe to get a halfway decent Puma kit this season, I can understand their choice.

FML. As a Spurs fan, I was super excited for a smart adidas kit next year, instead of another generic palette-swapped Puma uni.

Shame. Glad it's not adidas, because the past few years they have produced some overdone and annoying kits. But more puma? Bloody hell. I had been keeping fingers crossed for a return to Umbro, whose classic kits right now are among the best.

Puma kits tend to be quite generic. However, Adidas give Chelsea a pile of rubbish, whilst Puma appear to treat Spurs as an important club. Thus sticking with Puma is probably a good thing.

I agree with spurspete about the Umbro kits, I have enough all three shirts being changed every season, pluse puma is so over priced, and hard to get hold of!

No brainer :/ i was hoping something like Umbro or Adidas...could of seen Adidas do something quite unique with Spurs or Umbro with their classic kits...either or we could of seen something really nice. But with Puma...meh, bland?

Well for this current season Tottenham are in the prestigious King design and not many teams can claim that, so to lambast and state 'another template' next yeat etc etc, is very untrue, as no other team for the 10/11 season has the King design, so Spurs have a unique treatment. I am a Chelsea fan and do remember the 80's etc of the Umbro designs and I too prefer these against the current batch of Adi.

I do not think that by switching to Adidas that Spurs would have a super cool design, Adi have Chelsea and Liverpool under contract and they are far bigger in terms of global appeal than Spurs are currently, so I would be surprised if Spurs would have been given a unique kit by Adi.

Nike, Adi and Puma ALL offer Club and International Teams 'Template' designs, so this topic will not cease to go away, I doubt very much that the brands have a dedicated designer per Club etc, so whenever a concept is launched of course the brands want it advertised and what better way than in the form of club team shirts

This is a business first and foremost and as much as we would all like the brands to lavish 'our' club with the best, unique design, sadly it will not happen. Adi did not sign Chelsea because their owner is alife long fan! No, they signed them because a billionaire Russian pumped a lot of money in to the club, thus turning it in to a very attractive propersition and a great business opportunity for Adi and IF Adi really wanted Spurs I'm sure they could have out bid Puma, seeing as they are something like 4 times the size and maybe Spurs wanted a relationship which they have with Puma rather than Adi's money and being pushed down their corporate foodchain under Liverpool and Chelsea, Madrid, Bayern etc etc.....

Sorry to say but Spurs shirt is used by Hoffenhiem (3rd shirt), http://www.footballshirtculture.com/10/11-kits/hoffenheim-2010-2011-puma-football-kits.html. So unfortunately there is nothing unique about it..

Spurs' home kit is the same as the away kit of Young Boys of Switzerland.

1 year extension is probably to see if Spurs get back into the Champion's League next year. As Spurs are riding hight they probably want to cash in on the sponsorship deal but they aren't established enough to warrant top dollar.

So Spurs get a bit more money and Puma get to see how Spurs do over the next season or 2.
