Real Madrid seeks new adidas kit deal

According to the Spanish newspaper El Pais, Real Madrid have asked sponsor adidas to double the amount it pays the club annually to 60 million euros.

Real's new president Florentino Perez is seeking the renegotiation of the contract with the German sporting goods manufacturer, which runs until 2012, El Pais said,

acoording sources close to the club say a refusal by adidas, which produces and sells the club's shirts, could push Real to take its business to the company's US rival Nike.

Besides adidas, Real has several other sponsors, including Coca-Cola, Audi, Bwin and Telefonica, which altogether pay them some 130 millions euros a year, around one third of the club's revenues of 400 million.

In the past month, Real has shelled out more than 200 million euros for top stars Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka, Raul Albiol and Karim Benzema.

"We are the best club in the world," Perez told adidas CEO Herbert Hainer in a telephone conversation seeking a renegotiation of their contract, according to El Pais.

The cheek! These unscupulous club spends about 200million in borrowed money on their latest so-called \"galacticos\" and now they are desperately trying to scrounge and extort the money to cover their arses any which way they can.

I\'ve got an idea, they could sell their training ground for a ludicrously inflated price to the Spanish government and then lease it back, free of charge... oops! They already pulled that trick. Not to worry. Just do it again with their stadium. Viva Franco! :woohoo:

At a time when almost every company has an uncertain future this is purely arrogance on the part of Real Madrid! If I supported them as a club I would feel it was a slap in the face when so many people are loosing jobs.

How could Perez even consider this move as he could have no idea of the impact of the global financial situation on Adidas.

I would have a lot of respect for Adidias if they told Real to F**K OFF and lost the deal. It wont happen but it might put Real in their place.

Well, the plus side is that us \"haters\" have a decent grasp of the English language and understand the value of proper punctuation.

Basically, you\'re a moron.

unbelievable from real madrid, especially when they are the world\'s richest club and earn huge amounts of money from the adidas shirt sales anyway,, yet clearly that isnt enough for them.

have to say, though, real madrid shirts, i think, would look better in nike designs rather than adidas.

What I know and have read, nike and adidas did already fired people or didn\'t prolong severeal contract

In my opinion clubs should be more loyal to their fans and their shirts (why every year 3 or sometimes 4 shirts)
AZ in holland had over 4 shirt manufacturers over the last 5 years (quick canterbury and umbro)

in other words ****: Florentino Perez sideways upsidedown and inside out!

and Real Madrid is not the best club in the world ... they are the best of Spain, but unfortunately Barca is the best of Catalunya and Spain!

i think adidas can\'t refuse the contract. if they lose real madrid it will be a catastrophic situation in spain. nike already have barcelona if they obtain real madrid it will be incredible!!
real had sold more shirts for the first ronaldo day than zidane first day... adidas can\'t refuse. they can play \"on time\" because their current contract ends in 2012.
(sorry for my english, i\'m a stranger)
