The Scottish FA and adidas today confirmed the sportswear giant as the new official kit supplier to the Scotland National team, supplying all match apparel and producing all replica kit, training and leisure wear.

The deal will run from January 2010 to June 2014 and the new kit will be worn for the first time at Scotland’s friendly against the Czech Republic in March.

Speaking about the deal, Scottish FA Chief Executive Gordon Smith said:

“This is a great deal for the Scottish FA and a huge show of faith in Scotland by one of largest and most prestigious sports brands in the world. Being associated with adidas will lift the profile of our national teams and will ensure that our supporters around the world have access to the very best merchandise and replica kits.

“The money that we generate through this new partnership will allow us to continue our huge investment programme in grass roots and youth football. Every commercial deal we sign and every partnership we enter into has one sole aim – to help us secure the future of our game.

“We are delighted to welcome adidas into the Scottish football family. I have no doubt that deal will excite the fans and will go on to be a long and lasting success for everyone.”

adidas Area North Managing Director, Gil Steyaert,  added:

"Both adidas and the Scottish FA have a long and proud heritage in football and we are delighted that we are able to announce our partnership today.

"Like all Scotland supporters, adidas has a passion for the game and the National team will wear the very best in kit technology.

"adidas is also committed to encouraging youngsters to participate in sport and we are especially pleased that we can help the Scottish FA continue to develop it’s grassroots activities.  We look forward to a long and successful relationship."

Aww c\'mon, this seasons kit is awsome, part from the socks. But this is cracking news for us, after fila and diadora, we actually have a big name for supplying our kits. However saying this...i bloody well hope that we dont get crapply represented by adidas, you know like isreal, where its that same old sickly template and match that with the teams colours, that would be awful!!!!

Don\'t expect anything revolutionary for home kit... but it should be interesting to know the Adidias\' ideas for away and (maybe) third kit... Boring white shirts again? I prefer a replica of 1990 Scottish away kit: http://www.scottishfa.co.uk/football_links.cfm?page=815

I so hope it\'s not sub-standard 2nd rate ClimaCool kits like Boro and about 20 other Coca-Cola teams have.

Bespoke 3-stripe lovelyness wanted.

Mind you the Fila kits were quite good, as was the 2005-06 Diadora home.

What are you on about? Adidas don\'t do the \"tailored\" design. Your thinking of Umbro.

Sad to say, Scotland will probably get a overused Adidas template. If you look at all the adidas teams, Spain does not even have a unique design, so Scotland most likely won\'t either.

Sorry, by \"tailored\" I mean specifically designed, like MUFC with Nike and Umbro with City. I mean that they actually design us a strip, not just change the colours of the Plymouth Argyle one and stick a Scotland badge on it.

At least the referees will be wearing something decent, as opposed to the horrible designs that Diadora subject them to,

Scotland blue with white sleeve lines should look good.

I hope you guys don\'t get the Spain/Boro/Derby or Chelsea/Bayern template, as they look rubbish.

If Spain, Chelesea and Bayern can\'t avoid templates, Scotland will probably get stuck with one.

By the way was Adidas chosen as Nike or Umbro would cause problems with the old firm rivalry?

adidas make far better kits. The teams choose a design. EVERY manufacturer use multiple templates. Rangers and Celtic?? Both strips are boring! There is only so much you can do (Celts won\'t budge from the horizontal stripes and the Huns won\'t change from the Union Jack mentality.)
Who cares if Scotland get a used template anyway. The badge on the shirt makes the difference and if you are a true Scot then you will accept any version.
The 2nd and 3rd kits could be very different from years gone by (yellow and red for example for the Lion Rampant flag)

for one season i think diadora supplied rangers and scotland with kits while nike was with umbro. likewise in the 90s celtic and scotland were both supplied by umbro while rangers were with adidas and nike.

so i don\'t see it being a problem.
