Sweden Announce Adidas Kit Deal

The swedish FA (SvFF) announced that adidas will be their new kit manufacturer until 2019. The agreement with SvFF is valid for six years starting on 1 January 2013. Adidas is the SvFF's exclusive supplier of materials for both men, women, the youth national teams, as well as of products for the fans.

adidas and Swedish Football have a long and successful history together. Several classic Swedish national teams have enjoyed much success with the iconic three stripes on their shirts, with the team's bronze in the 1994 World Cup as the brightest example.

"We are convinced that adidas is the partner that best matches the investment we are making in our team going forward. Their market leadership in Sweden, visions around football and fantastic product portfolio makes them an ideal partner for us", said Mikael Santoft, Secretary General of the Swedish Football Association.

"As a step in consolidating our market leadership in football in Sweden, it is obvious that we want to initiate a partnership with the greatest symbol of Swedish football. It is with pride that we enter into cooperation and look forward to helping the Swedish national team to success", said Brian Grevy, Nordic CEO of the adidas Group.

The goal is to create new iconic shirts for the upcoming qualifiers and finals. The pride that the players feel about wearing the Swedish national team jersey has been the starting point, and will also be reflected in the design.

The official football kits will be presented during a press conference in Stockholm on January 16, and will be available here.

They share the same colours... Adidas cant get away with a template for Sweden.
Looking forward to seeing the kit.

So many supporters have said "adidas won't get away with using a template for MY team," then end up disappointed, eg Stoke, Sunderland, West Brom, who all ended up with the same kit.

To my knowledge Adidas has manufactured some Sweden Nt kits in the past. Most Adidas templates are the same anyway, just different print pattern. Why worry. I prefer Sweden with Adidas anyway. I liked their 2002 WC kit.

Can't speak for Wales but I believe the FAI have an agreement wherby the jerseys must be made in Ireland, hence the reason Umbro make them. The last few were designed in England but stitched together in Ireland by a company called Toplion I think. Adidas had a factory in Ireland til 93 or 94, not sure where.

Another titbit is that O'Neills sports are the only other company with rights to use the three stripes. One of Nice Guy Adi's many gentleman's agreements carried on since the 70s.

So who do Umbro have left now? I understand Southampton will be wearing Adidas next season too. That leaves Forest, Blackburn, Rangers, Lille, Athletic Bilbao, Rubin Kazan and a handful of other clubs.

It's all very sad

I have news that UMBRO will stop producing football products and they will concentrate on leisure and apparels. That explains why they are markedly letting down teams lately.. It's truly sad cuz they've been one of the best in the last few years... i'm really sad

One of the best kits here in Colombia ever is Santa Fe. (Umbro) It would make a wonderful Arsenal shirt. I think any other manufacturer will ruin it. Also lots of clubs in Peru wear Umbro at the moment.

With this, most scandinavian national teams will be wearing adidas (denmark, finland and now sweden). All thats left is norway and iceland. Well actually, norway currently wears umbro, therefore it should be a matter of time until they swap for another

Faroe islands do not have their own national team, they belong to Denmark. Estonia is not a part of Scandinavia.

Yes they do. They famously beat Austria. It shares a Queen with Denmark as the UK does with Jamaica. And correct Estonia is not part of Scandinavia but is part of the Baltic Nations that include Finland and Sweden. Sometimes Finland is not conciderd Scandinavian but the Swedish speaking Fins do.

Anybody reading this site, remember: if Umbro do leave football, an enormous, undescribabale knowhow, experience, knowledge, and tradition will be lost.
Any of you owning one of their equipment, especially basic and not team-related, have alook at it and enjoy the quality and expertise that is put in making it (I have just received the Rangers away socks, the way they are constructed is beautiful), and compare it to anything else you possess.
I personally wear only Umbro, so in front of me I see a long period of money saved for football equipment, until a British investor will want to revitalise them somehow.
Wishing all the worst to Nike, always.

Pretty sure that aint the kit as its a 2year old template that derby wore in 2011, It will most likely be similiar to the new spain/moroco v-neck design that seems to be getting used alot

Sweden's new home kit might look like Chelsea's 08/09 away kit (the 2009 FA Cup Final one).
