legends thumbs up for new 07/08 Sunderland kits

Sunderland legends Jimmy Montgomery and Bobby Kerr have both given the new away kit the big thumbs up.

The 1973 heroes helped to launch the all-white strip at the club's Debenhams in Sunderland city centre as dozens of fans queued to get their hands on the eagerly-awaited shirt.

And they both say it brings back the old days when the Black Cats used to play in all-white back in the 1970s .

Monty said " I like a white strip, there's something about it, it just looks something different. I used to love seeing us play in all white when we did all those years ago."

"Hopefully the Umbro and Sunderland getting together again brings more medals again and some silverware! " The legendary goalkeeper wasn't surprised to see Sunderland fans turn out in their masses last night.

"The euphoria that's going on at the moment with Niall Quinn and Keano coming in, with the shirt coming out it's no surprise to see the crowds coming out, it just shows the potential that there is here at Sunderland " added Monty.

Cup final captain Kerr said: "Some of the shirts in the past haven't been up to much, but it's nice, it's going back to the old days."

"I'm just trying to find a shirt that fits me, but I think I'll have to go the child's section!"

Following the unprecedented success of the away launch last week, Sunderland's new home kit for the 2007/08 will be available in official SAFC club stores from Thursday July 26.
Fans attending the launch will get a unique chance to watch Roy Keane putting his team through their paces in a special training session at the Stadium of Light, prior to the team departing for
their tour of Ireland. The training session will start at 10.30am on Thursday July 26 and official stores at the Stadium of Light, Sainsbury's (The Galleries, Washington) and Debenhams (Sunderland) will be open from 10.00am for kit sales.

SAFC marketing and communications Director Lesley Callaghan said: "We know how proud Sunderland fans are of their famous red and white striped shirts and that the new shirt is being very
eagerly anticipated."

"The launch event at the stadium involving Roy and the team is likely to be even more popular than the away kit launch and fans buying direct from the Club knowthey are also investing in our
future"

Club Captain Dean Whitehead added: "The design looks great and the new fabric feels really good - we're all looking forward to playing in the new kit, both the home and away kits are brilliant."
