Their greatest moment came in 1976, when they reached the FA Cup Final, Wearing a yellow admiral shirt , playing Manchester United at Wembley, and surprised all observers by beating United 1-0 thanks to a goal from Bobby Stokes.
" Last season's black away shirt was extremely popular and the majority of fans seem to prefer a one year cycle for away strips with the lower price of GBP 22 for children shirts, for youths and GBP 25 for adults*.GBP 30
We have also extended our range of children's mini kits to include a new 4-5yr size and you can now purchase a full set of shirt, shorts and socks up to this new size for just GBP 20 "
Both new away strips have been designed with the help of Saints fan and designer Paul Lemon aka "Geckosaint" who played a key role in the success of last season's home and away kits. Since last year Paul has gone on to work with other companies including Umbro and Adidas.
Leighton Mitchell added: "We were very pleased that last years kit designs proved popular with the fans. That was due in no small part to Paul's input throughout the design process and we are very grateful to Paul for agreeing to provide his expertise again this year. "We have tried to combine traditional colours with some contemporary design elements and a performance fabric to produce kits that will ensure fans can wear their colours with pride "
Paul Lemon added: "I am glad the majority of fans approved of last season's designs and I was only too pleased to help out again this year - I just hope the shirts prove as popular! "
Originally, the club used the same crest as the one used by the city itself. However during the 1970s a competition was run for fans to design a new one. The winning design was used for around 20 years, before being modified slightly in the 1990s for copyright reasons.
From top-to-bottom, the halo is a reference to the nickname 'Saints', the ball to the nature of the club, the scarf to the fans and the team colours. The tree represents the nearby New Forest and the water Southampton's connections with the rivers, seas and oceans.
Below that is a Mayflower - the symbol of the city which is also present on the city crest. In the mid-1990s the ball was changed from a vintage style ball (such as those used in the 1960s) to the current ball with black and white panels, for copyright reasons.
