Exeter City 08/09 home shirt design vote

For the past few weeks Trust representatives have been working in conjunction with officials from the management of Exeter City FC and the clubs official kit supplier SHO with a view to developing a list of potential designs for Exeter City's 2008 - 2009 home shirt.

Exeter City fans are being given the opportunity to help choose the club's home strip for next season.A number of designs were drawn up by kit supplier Sho and presented to City boss Paul Tisdale and other representatives from the club.

The list was whittled down to five designs and now supporters are being encouraged to vote on their favourite strip.

The club are keen to keep the traditional red and white stripes, but the different designs mean that fans have an opportunity to state their preferred choice.

A great deal of consideration was given to whether the vote should be restricted to supporters trust members before it was decided that it should.

"We don't want to antagonize any supporters who haven't yet joined the trust," explained supporters' trust press officer Martin Lawrence.

"However, the board of society is constantly striving for ways of recognising the contribution of trust members and offering them the opportunity to choose next season's home kit seemed one simple way of doing so."

Fans will have the chance to cast their votes from Saturday onwards and voting will last for around two weeks before the new strip is rubber-stamped. The kit with the most votes wins.

Flyers will be handed out at this Saturday's home game against Altrincham, explaining how to cast a vote.

"The vote itself is open to trust members, so young or old can have their say," added Lawrence.

"Paul Tisdale, in conjunction with his coaching staff, has certainly had an involvement in the five nominated strips. They put forward the ones they felt the players would be most comfortable with.

"So the one thing we do know is that the players are all happy with whichever one wins.

"The club were determined to keep the red and white stripes and that was very much at the forefront of the thinking."

It is not the first time the Grecians have embarked on such a project as fans voted on this season's away strip last year.

And the initiative was deemed such a success that it is being repeated.

"It was very successful last time around," added Lawrence. "We had in the region of 400, 500 votes on that occasion so we are hoping for a similar response. Voting will last for around two weeks this time and the shirts should be on sale during the summer."

The decision to undertake a vote on the home shirt design for the 2008/09 campaign was taken at the request of the supporters' trust board of society in a bid to integrate fans into the decision-making process.

And Lawrence insists the democratic process reflects the supporter-led ethos of the club.

"Exeter City prides itself on the ethos of being a community-orientated club and this is all about looking after the community of the fans and giving them as much say as possible."
