Genoa 2008/09 Asics football kits launched

These are the new 08/09 Genoa football kits made by their new kit manufacturer Asics. As Genoa was founded by Englishmen in 1893 the first ever colours of the club resembled that of the England national football team.

Not long into the club's footballing history, the kit was changed to white and blue stripes in 1899; the blue was chosen to represent the sea as Genoa is a port city. (The 08/09 third kit is a restyling of kits used by Genoa CFC between 1893 and 1899, before starting to use the red and blue strip.) Finally the club settled for their most famous red and blue halves shirt, this gained them the nickname of rossoblu.

One of the nicknames of Genoa is Il Grifone which means "the griffin"; this is derived from the coat of arms belonging to the city of Genoa. The coat of arms features two golden griffins, either side of the St George's Cross. The actual club badge of Genoa Cricket and Football Club is heavily derived from the city coat of arms, but also incorporated the club's red and blue colours.

    No shirt sp*n*er-whatever next!
With halved shirts there isn\'t too much you can do, the away kit is the usual away kit they wear, the 3rd kit is okay nothing too amazing.

PergoCrema is correct. Their shirts last year were made by Errea. Mia culpa.

Very nice shirts although the home shirt is identical to that worn by Cagliari. It\'ll be interesting to see how the sponsor motif fits in. Last year\'s Kappa designs were good but these just about better them

Is it me or do most Italian teams promote their new shirts with a bevy of beauties ? It certainly gets your attention !

The 1st and 2nd kit is the same of the last year, change only technical sponsor (errea 07-08 to asics 08-09). Alternative the 3rd kit, it\'s nice...
