Norwich City 59ERS shirts in replay

Norwich City confirmed that the Canaries will again wear the special kit to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Club's 1958-59 Cup run in their FA Cup third round replay against Charlton Athletic at Carrow Road on Tuesday, January 13 (7.45pm).

Norwich wore the retro kit on Saturday against Charlton in the FA Cup third round match at The Valley, which ended in a 1-1 draw thanks to Arturo Lupoli's 70th minute equaliser.

Player-worn shirts from the third round replay will then be auctioned on the Club's official website from Thursday, January 15, with a share of the proceeds going to the Norwich City Historical Trust.

The special shirts to be worn follow the original 1958-59 shirt design and thanks to Aviva, there will be no sponsor logo. They also feature a green v-neck and sleeve trim and distinctive period badge design. The team will also be sporting black shorts and yellow socks, as the 58-59 team wore.

Back in October, current player Sammy Clingan joined Terry Allcock, who played in the historic cup run to unveil the special shirt and 959 of these have been produced for fans to purchase from the Canary Stores.

A small number remain in small and medium adult sizes only, priced at £35 and are available from both the Canary Stores at Carrow Road and The Mall. Season ticket holder and membership discounts are available.

The shirts are just part of a series of activities for the 59ers 50th Anniversary Reunion, sponsored by Aviva. An anniversary dinner on Friday, January 16, will honour the 1958-59 team, a number of whom have been invited to attend. It will take place in the Norfolk Lounge, Carrow Road at 7.30pm.

Yeah, I agree if you\'re going to make a replica shirt make something closer to the original. Toffs make a better replica 1959 Norwich shirt. The fabric and colour is better and the badge too.

Pity the shirts are the wrong shade of yellow and made from the same modern fabric as the current shirts. Also the green neck never had that overlap or curve in the colar and the badges are also not strictly the correct size and never had a green multi stitching around them. Apart from that they are perfect replicas. LOL

The black shorts are there because that\'s what Norwich were wearing in 1959 (or so the Historical Football Kits site says anyway). It\'s a great shirt, I must say, just as the Man United shirt they wore on the 50th anniversary of Munich was.

Yeah, It was a touch on the strange sidew to see Norwich wearing black shorts in the cup. I thought maybe what with credit crunch and all they were merely changing kits every few months a la France.

Strange to commemorate not actually winning anything at all....I guess there is not much to do in Norfolk ! Why the black shorts. The shirt is actually alright.
