This is the new England Away football shirt and kit, by Nike, to be worn during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil this summer.
The long-awaited shirt is in red - like the first Nike Away version and continuing the English tradition made famous in the glorious 1966 World Cup Final - and also incorporates the famous English Cross of St George, this time with a twist. The shirt has pinstripes combined with a tonal rendering of the national flag, the latter only visible from a distance, creating an odd optical illusion.
To enable the cross to have maximum coverage, the roundneck collar on the shirt is very subtle and little more than trim, and the crest is presented using a satin weave in increase brightness of the Three Lions - which also stand out further under UV light.
The official first choice shorts - slimmer cut than previous versions - are in white with a red tape strip down each side, though red shorts may also make an appearance. The socks complete the look and are red.
Like most Nike releases, the kit includes DRI-fit technology, laser cut ventilation holes and other means to ensure the players keep cool, dry and comfortable on the pitch, and the shirt, shorts and now also socks are largely made from polyester from recycled plastic bottles.
