Manchester City 17/18 Nike Away Kit

Manchester City revealed its new away kit in Los Angeles as part of the International Champions Cup on July 26.

This is not the first-time maroon has featured in an away kit and as with many of the recent offerings, it is inspired by the Club’s rich history.

Shades of maroon have recurred throughout the club’s kits over the years. Notably, the 1956 FA Cup Final winning team wore a dark maroon jersey with white pinstripes, and the 1967-68 League title-winning side’s kit incorporated maroon detailing (as alluded to in the 2017-18 Home kit).

If the design pays reference to the past, then Nike’s Aeroswift technology most certainly gives the kit a truly modern feel.

As the most advanced apparel innovation to date, the Aeroswift kit has engineered knit zones on the shirt, which enhance fit when playing.

The sides of the kit feature a black stripe with blue underlay that runs the length of the shirt and blue shorts, expanding when in motion to maximise ventilation .

Finally, the City blue-trimmed socks incorporate NikeGrip technology for the ultimate foot-to-boot connection.

    England already have so many claret and blue teams, do we really need another one?

    @Wigan Forest Totally agree,

    Should be more like Villa/ Burnley/ Northampton colours, this is too purple for me, looks like squash!

    Like everyone seen this kit leaked for weeks, the idea of a maroon away strip is good.. But this colour is just too on the pinky/ purple side for me. Needs to be a slightly darker shade, similar to the sleeve colour of the 2017 away kit.

    @To the forest Ahh yes. The old 'I'm going to appear smart by saying something witty and sarcastic about how something isn't actually worth my time, but actually I've made it worth my time by saying something witty and sarcastic' thing.

    Super. Brilliant.

    I think the kit is nice though. Even though it's still following Nike's same old template, it could have been worse. Good to see them give City something more traditional.

    I honestly thought, just for a moment, that this was something for West Ham.

    @Quasar It's a traditional away kit colour going back to the 1890s!

    Nice kit for a club that has tried so hard to become fashionable, yet always appears as an also ran. A last years haircut club. Fake fans, fake players, it's like having a great album but no record player. This club has no soul. Empty. Fish and chips without the salt and vinegar.

    Great to see City in a maroon kit again but come on Nike try something other than this template!

    Not quite as good as the Umbro maroon away kits from the early 90s, but the best effort Nike have made for City so far.
