To celebrate the start of the 2019 season, long-standing partners adidas and Major League Soccer presented their 2019 team jerseys out of the field and on to the runway.

The two houses came together to show that uniforms are not only meant for players and sports fans but can be worn from the stadium to the street and accessed by a wider style community to symbolize city identity and pride.

Breaking the traditional mold in which sports uniforms reside, the showcase reinterpreted the jerseys as pieces of fashion through the vision of four emerging fashion figures.

“As a brand that puts the creator first, we couldn’t be more thrilled with the reinterpretation of this season’s MLS jerseys. Each look was pulled together through a vision unique to each stylist involved and they truly championed the idea that soccer embodies an inclusive spirit,” said Jennifer Valentine, Senior Director of adidas Soccer in North America. “Being at the epicenter of sport and culture, last night was a powerful reflection of the brand’s ethos and we look forward to continuing on this path that fuses performance with creativity.”

“The fashion show captured the unique spirit and confident attitude that embodies MLS. The game is truly part of the fabric of North American culture and it was an honor to celebrate soccer’s impact on sports and entertainment with adidas,” said Rachel Leber, Vice President of Consumer Products at Major League Soccer . “MLS fans are different from any other league - millennial, multicultural and inclusive - and they continue to be an authentic representation of a new way to experience the world’s game - both in the way they express themselves through fashion in the stadium and in their everyday lives.”

In the heart of Los Angeles’ Fashion District, City Market was transformed into the adidas & MLS hub where sport, fashion and culture intersected. Through a curated, 48-look fashion show, the 2019 collection was transformed by Sara Gourlay , Andrew Andrade , Pierre Davis of No Sesso and Corey T. Stokes . The four notable stylists presented their creative take on the 2019 MLS & adidas kits, revealing diverse style directions meant to inspire fans of soccer and fashion alike. The looks were presented by high profile athletes and models such as volleyball star Alix Klineman , LAFC star Lee Nguyen and Deng.

Captivating visuals paired with riveting music engulfed the catwalk where each collection was presented by each stylist. The runway show was followed by an after-party with music provided by DJs Noodles and Odalys. The venue also housed a pop-up MLS Fashion Lab where guests were able to see the kits firsthand and customize their own gear.
