Israel unveiled a new Football Crest

Details
May 25 2008

The Israel Football Association unveiled their brand new football crest which is set to be placed on the 08/09 home and away shirts. The IFA was founded under the name Palestine Football Association (PFA) in 1928, 20 years before the establishment of the state of Israel at the end of the British Mandate of Palestine.

The PFA was accepted as a full member of FIFA in 1929. The PFA first dealt with local leagues, but later also managed the national team that was created to participate in the World Cup qualifications (participating in 1934 and 1938 as the Palestine/Eretz Yisrael national team). Upon creation of the State of Israel in 1948, IFA became the official association of the new state. The Israel national team's first game as an independent state was on September 26, 1948, against the USA (result: 1-3 to the USA).

While 81 % of the FSC poll voters think this is an excellent design, The NFF management has decided that a new emblem will be devised for the national teams, with the Norwegian flag as part of it.

After massive complains by the Norwegian people about the new design, the NFF President Sondre Kfjord promised that feedback will be taken into account in a further process of developing a new emblem. The launch of a new emblem on Tuesday has provoked strong debate in the last few days. The NFF management is using the points of view that have come out as a background to the debate, and concluded that the teams will play with the flag on their shirts until a new emblem is finally ready.

"We have decided to work to develop a new emblem to include the flag, so that players can continue to play with the flag on their shirt", said the President. The debate has confirmed a strong engagement with Norwegian
international football and the position of football in Norway.

Norway unveiled a new crest

The Norwegian football federation unveiled their new crest (and a new shirt). "Recommended Norway" is responsible for the design, while Peter Horridge has drawn the emblem. The same man is behind the logos of Liverpool, the Premier League and the England badge.

The Norwegian flag has been a national icon since the 1920s. With the flag on the chest, the Norwegian national teams had many proud moments. But now is the time for a new era where a new chapter is to be written into the history books. And this time, a new emblem to replace the Norwegian flag. Only 7 of the world's 50 best national teams are using the flag active in its emblem.

"We have long looked at how other nations have used their own identity within the symbols of their national teams, and assessed whether this could be an option for our national teams. Now, we believe that the time is right, and we are brilliant satisfied with the result, "said Karen Espelund, secretary general of the Norwegian Football Association.

 Wigan Athletic new crest

Wigan Athletic unveiled their brand new club crest . It appears to be a re-working of Latics' famous tree and crown crest.

That image was the one displayed on Wigan's blue and white shirts when the club was elected into the Football League in 1978, far pre-dating the town crest that appears on today's shirt.

Latics Commercial Director Paul Hunt has been the driving force behind the new crest and hopes that it will mark the beginning of a new era for the club.

He said: "Wigan Athletic does not, in terms of a badge and crest, have its own identity; it is the town's identity.

 QPR new Crest

After Portsmouth's new crest, QPR FC also unveiled a new Club crest, marking the start of a new era. Officially launched Sunday 4th May 2008, the new logo signifies the Club's determination to embrace a new chapter and identity at Loftus Road.

The new Crest combines elements of the Club's heritage and was designed to encapsulate the past, present and future, with the famous Hoops being re-integrated into the official identity. R's legends from yesteryear joined QPR's current squad and children from the Club's Centre of Excellence on the pitch ahead of kick-off against West Bromwich Albion to unveil the new crest.

Flavio Briatore, Chairman of QPR Holdings Ltd, said: "This is a significant day for Queens Park Rangers Football Club and it was important for the fans to see the new crest first.

"It represents another huge forward step in our aim to re-launch the Club into a global brand - anchored in W12, but giving it a vision for the future.

"I am delighted with the design of the new crest, which maintains the Queens Park Rangers tradition of blue and white hoops. I know how important it is to the fans that the hoops remain, and that was always going to be the case."

Briatore explained the rationale behind the new crest, adding: "This is a period of huge transformation at QPR.

"This new crest is stylish, thrilling and authentic and signifies the start of what we hope will become the most successful period in the Club's history."

 portsmouth new crest

Portsmouth FC unveiled a new crest which differs significantly from the old crest.

It removes the 'three points' and the 'star and moon' now have a three dimentional look. The 'moon' also has more diameter and looks quite like the citys Coat of Arms.

Its the first significant change of the emblem for 15 years. The new-look design is an update of the traditional star and crescent and will be used for the first time in the programme for the club's clash with Fulham on Sunday.

Gone is the Old English- style typeface upon a golden scroll and in comes a bold Portsmouth FC banner across the centre of the shield.

The new design also boasts a three-dimensional effect. Lines have been scored within the crescent moon and striking star.

Slight changes in the shades of the historical symbols ensure the overall effect is that of an emblem reflecting a strong light.
