While obscure teams being chosen for DesignFootball.com Kit of the Week (KOTW) stages is a lot of fun, you can’t really beat the occasional giant of football getting the treatment.
Enter 229 late last year and its focus on the Argentine national side. It was an absolute cracker.
TRIDENTE bagged top spot in the voting thanks to a design which brought to mind both the one-off shirt worn as the now late legend Diego Maradona handled and weaved his way to a brace which saw off England in 1986, and the heavily ventilated number worn when El Diego’s team failed to defend their World Cup crown in the 1990 final rematch with West Germany.

The mix of the timeless and classic with the modern elements - the LCS logo is the current one, and the subtle flag effect created by the patterning screams the current era - seems to be what elevated TRIDENTE’s offering to the top of the podium. A mix difficult to get right with concept/fantasy designs, but expertly done here.
